Exploring an abandoned mine pit

in #adventure2 years ago

Not far from where I live is an abandoned mine pit, since the sun was out and the skies were clear, I figured it would be a good opportunity to get some nice shots there.

This used to be a huge pit from which they have mined many tons of stone. It’s supposed to be more than 20 meter deep, which is kind of scary. The water is clear and still and I hardly ever meet anyone when I come here for a visit.

In order to get a better overview of the place I will start from the beginning of the path.

The sun was really low at this point so it was hard to get a good shot from this angle.

When you get to the top of this hill it opens up like a valley and to the left is the pit, that has been filled with water since who knows when.

There is an old iron fence surrounding the pit or at-least part of it. Must have been part of the construction site and protection for the workers back in the day.

Before crossing this fence I decided to head to the south part of the pond as I figured it would be a good vantage point with the sun behind my back.

Since the water was absolutely still it was a nice clean reflection.

The second shot was a little bit better. Really nice blue color with the stark contrast of the dark black and some yellow colour as well l.

After taking these shots I decided to go back to the fence where I Know there is a little pier out on the water. I haven’t gone done there before so I figured it’s about time to do so.

The way down was kind of steep so someone was kind enough to set up a rope for support.

When finally reaching the wooden raft it was really a magical sight.

It doesn’t get much more peaceful and tranquil.

I’m gonna head back sometime soon and bring some hot coffee and some pastries and make a picnic of it . Hope your weekend is great and thanks for stopping by !

Did you feel the suspense? By imagining that how the pit was alive back then? Maybe it was filled with thousands of workers but now it's completely abandoned.

Yea it’s quite a powerful feeling, standing on a raft that is floating on water that is covering such a huge pit where people worked long days with heavy lifting. I have actually seen some of the stones left behind, I guess they didn’t mine them with the right dimensions and discarded them. It must have been back breaking work because they had to drill holes with close proximity in a line to divide the stones. Once you know a part of the history a place can come to life, this is such a place!

Wow! What a beautiful place for a picnic and a peaceful place to sit and reflect. It should bring some clarity to an overtaxed modern day mind.

Quite a juxtaposition between the quiet of today and the cacophony that must have rang out in times past.

“Quite a juxtaposition between the quiet of today and the cacophony that must have rang out in times past.” Great way of putting it, wish I had this kind of vocabulary in my posts ! Thanks for stopping by !
