Recently, I was, as usual, creating one of my small fantastic stories to participate in the many and varied contests that exist in Steemit. A very special person, called @calluna, made a comment on my post about a contest she has, in which you have to create a story about ‘smart’ technology/appliances most people buy, such as Amazon Echo and Alexa.
I really didn't have any idea about this type of equipment and I started to investigate a little about them. I found out they are virtual assistants, who have artificial intelligence and which can receive verbal commands in several languages (including Japanese) and fulfill them. So much so, that they can control other smart devices (such as video cameras, alarms, thermostats, etc.). The most impressive thing is that these assistants can be updated or improved through Skills, programs that can be downloaded and give a skill such as entertainment, finance, health, music, lifestyles, etc. This gives infinite possibilities.
This reminded me, and indeed its origin comes from there, to the computers and systems of the Enterprise (Star Trek Next Generation)
Where Gene Roddenberry offers us a more useful insight for these attendees in the very distant future. In which the human being in his search and exploration of new worlds relies on these artificial intelligences to respond to the adversities that are presented to them, trusting them to help solve more complex problems. Unlike the catastrophic view of Terminator, where artificial intelligences decide to exterminate humanity.
Another version that comes to my head is that of the movie Her, where, in the not too distant future, a human being fall in love with his virtual assistant, who evolves and 'learns' to love too.
I imagine that a radio soon can be smarter than us. These skills acquired by these artificial intelligences give the impression that they make them smarter than we are. In fact, just being able to understand Japanese, and 5 other languages, makes it more skillful than many people I know, including myself.
But the interesting thing is to use these skills and these assistants and their applications in everyday or "real" life, as I would call it. Two years ago my father died of a disease of cognitive deterioration (we called it Alzheimer, wrongly), a terrible disease that damages the brain and the person becomes a totally different one. It would be interesting that in the not too distant future these virtual assistants help to assist people with this disease, especially now that an increase in diagnosed cases of the disease in people between 40 and 60 years has been determined.
These virtual assistants could support those who take care of these patients, since they must have a lot of patience and must continually answer over and over the same questions: what time is it, what day is it today, what date is it today? Etc.
And the virtual assistants could be replicated in all parts of the house, interconnected to all devices, watching and monitoring the activities and movements of these patients and reminding them who they are, where they are (in addition to what I was mentioning above), controlling their medications and helping them to avoid any accident
I hope to one day see this come true.
Keep spreading the Steemit love

AI developments is a very much welcome improvements on the use of different tools and gadgets whether inside the house or in the workplace. It will revolutionize our industries.
But certain restriction can be put in place in-terms of code/program ethics and strictly adhering to international standards for human safety.
But i still believe that mainstream AI use is still very far distant years.
The task of developers and policy makers is to lay down frameworks to this developments, education will play a vital role.
Hi @guruvaj
It is true that there is still a long way to go before the AIs reach the point where they are capable enough to take care of or understand the needs of humans.
However, it is necessary to define those restrictions as indicated in your comment.
I had not thought about the educational role. Will the AIs become our teachers?
Thanks for passing by
Yes, a simulated teacher.
Imagine Siri, with human form.
Posted using Partiko iOS
And what will be the human teachers? Replaced?
Thanks for inviting me to read this post. I do see an advantage to having something like Alexa in your home.
Helping to remind you if upcoming apointments and dates. But we have managed without these devices for many years.
I think it will make us lazy and we may even lose the ability to remember things for ourselves. Relying totaly on a machine to do that for us.
And in the other side we are inviting a didgital spy into our homes, that will report our every move back to its maker
And even to our Governments.
If it were not conected to the outside world but a stand alone devise I would be more inclined to invite it into my home.
Most new devises will always have a side that either target's us with adverts
Or will certainty be used to gather information that could harm us.
Big Brother is already here....

Hello @andyjem!
As I mentioned to @steemingmark, generally, the effects of technology are seen with the time passing.
I had not thought about that point of view. The AIs as spying objects. Well, we always have to consider and watch all the possible trends in technologies.
Thanks for passing by
The company I promote uses Forex Trading software based on Artificial Intelligence, and it is doing very well! I believe TRUE A.I. is still far away, but we can program everything more smart and detailed then before, creating a simulation of A.I.!
Hi @ambr.global!
That is an excellent example of the AI should go. Help in complex operations, allowing humans to dedicate themselves to other, more sublime things.
Thanks for coming by
Dear @ambr.global
Did you give up on posting on Steemit already? Also I was wondering if company you've mentioned is the one from your profile? http://ambr.org/ ? (this link doesnt seem to work).
Yours
Piotr
Dear @jadams2k18
Great choice of topic buddy. To often thinking about AI and our future is bringing me down. It seem to be bringing majority of people down.
It's surely hard to see benefits when we experience growing fear about our jobs.
But ... well, again this awful "but". The moment when I read "Alexa" and "Amazon Echo" I was like: what the hell. All i know about those tools is that amount of collected data about everything related to its user is probably enormous.
And who does actually manage/store that data. Plus how safe are those tools? Wouldn't "hackers" be able to "hack" your Alexa and find out everything about your daily schedulle etc? I can see huge room for abuse.
Perhaps I'm to pesimistic again ahhahaa :) Obviously all those examples you provided us are worth thinking about. Thx for pointing us in this direction.
ps. I love the fact that you decided to use Steem-bounty to reward people who take time to share their views and write a comment :)
God bless your father soul.
Yours
Piotr
Dear friend! Thanks for passing by
I see now that you really are allergic to AI
Maybe the data will be encrypted and saved into the blockchain. What do you think?
My friend @juanmolina recommended me to do it, I didn't know how to do it (he taught me). But I agree with your opinion, it's really a good way to thank the comments.
I appreciate it
Keep in touch
Dear @jadams2k18
I'm both: fascinated and allergic towards technology.
Not sure if you know anyone who work online, specialize with digital marketing and yet is using regular nokia phone :) I like to distance myself.
Cheers and ... don't be a stranger (wait wait, who said that? :)
Yours, Piotr
I know a friend who works with digital marketing (instagram, facebook, web, stuff like that) but she doesn't use a regular nokia. Usually, she uses a smartphone
That's funny
Thank you for being so responsive @jadams2k18
Usually people do use those smartphones. And they have very poor quality of life. The moment when I close my laptop - I'm 100% offline. I like to walk around, look at trees, watch people passing by. Feel the wind on my face. This would never happen if I would have a smartphone.
Marketer with such a mobile device is ALWAYS at work. Something I want to avod.
Hope you will have a great week ahead,
Piotr
I love answering the comments. It's like receiving letters, very exciting for me
You are right about having a smartphone, your contact with the real world is reduced.
Something good I learned from these blackouts, it is good to be separated from the virtual world from time to time, not only for health but also to improve interactions with loved ones around you, that is, spend more quality time with them.
Have a great week too my friend
Keep in touch
Dear @jadams2k18
You're killing me with your comments hahaha :)
Cheers, Piotr
Dear brother @ jadams2k18, you wrote a great article.
How nice it would be that technologies like these could alleviate the suffering of people suffering from some type of disease. I really think that for this God gave science to man, for the benefit and not for the destruction of the human species.
Fondly
Pr EV
I share your opinion appreciated @fucho80
Dear @jadams2k18
This comment made me laugh a lot,
However friend in my humble opinion with respect the artificial intelligence it does not stop being a creation of man so smart as it can be.
You can not overcome the human, that something, that I do not know, that soul and even that spirit are all part of that human that a machine can never have or be, can come to emulate all that because one way or another man it transmits that information to those machines that, under its circuits, arrive and try to rewrite its own program in order to copy human behavior.
On the other hand I am very much in agreement with you in how we could be able to use these computer systems or machines with AI
Hello, my friend @lanzjoseg!
I'm glad you enjoy my post.
True, inventors want to emulate both intelligence and humanity itself. But there is still a long way to go to achieve it. I agree with your opinion.
Thanks for taking the time and passing by
Thanks for the invitation to read the post. Artificial intelligence improves the lives of many people, we have become very dependent on it and at the same time they create things that improve the human body and lengthen life. @jadams2k18
racias por la invitacion a leer el post. La inteligencia artificial mejora la vida de muchas personas, nos hemos vuelto muy dependientes de ella y al mismo tiempo se creen cosas que mejoran el cuerpo humano y alargan la vida.
Hi @sacra97!
This is the technology, initially created to improve the quality of life, although in the end it becomes a commercial sense. But the good thing about this whole process is that it lowers costs.
Thanks for taking the time and passing by

Hola! @sacra97!
Así es la tecnología inicialmente la crean para mejorar la calidad de vida, aunque al final se convierte en un sentido comercial. Pero lo bueno de todo este proceso es que se abaratan los costos.
Gracias por pasar
I think AI technology is hard on one hand maybe it could help us to do some amazing things however on the other hand would it be to advanced, would it make us more lazy it is hard to say. However I am not sure if the technology is even at a stage that could be released to the public.

Hi @steemingmark
It is possible that the use of AI causes an effect of laziness or sluggishness. As well as the use of calculators has made most, especially young people, forget how to perform mathematical calculations.
Generally, the effects of technology are seen with the time passing.

Thanks a lot for your reply

Deep sense in your article. But I am not sure that today the artificial intelligence can take care of our relatives. But he is improving. So it is possible, by installing an artificial intelligence in a smart home. He will perform all those functions of assistance. Keep track of time. Help orient 24/7. Thanks for inviting me. Great article.
Thanks for your kind words @carbodexkim
You are right, they are still in diapers, but it would be very good to drive the use of artificial intelligence to help the sick too.
I loved this Post.
The writing is very fresh and easy to understand.
The layout is enviable.
Of course, the content is fascinating.
I see you researched a lot about these devices.
I really liked the reference you made to the movies.
I identified a lot with the use cases since my father also suffered a neurological disease before his death.
Just one question: what is the name of these incredible devices?
I congratulate you friend @jadams2k18.
Interesting Post!
Hello @juanmolina, thank you very much for commenting. These are Amazon virtual assistants: Alexa and Echo. Apple also has its AI and I guess Google and Microsoft are not far behind.
I appreciate your kind words
Thank you very much, dear friend.
I find it fascinating but also scary😆

Don´t be afraid. It's just technology.
Hi @jenina619!
All new technology causes reluctance. I remember that my parents were afraid of computers at the beginning and the internet. However, we must be aware of how far these artificial intelligences can evolve
Thanks for the invitation to this interesting topic @jadams2k18!
I see a lot of positive affects of AI into our lives. And I do not believe that appliances of AI can have such a huge impact to replace jobs or take over the world :) I do believe there will be many appliances which can support our daily things. We can use a lot of AI driven tools, assistances to make our life easier by reminding things to us for example or keeping track of things for us so that we have more time on other things which matter more for us. I don't see a very big "danger" in AI yet. Of course we don't know what the future will bring :)
I like your example about reminding medication, reminding current day/time to some patients. This would be very helpful, but this still remains as a useful tool and doesn't replace the necessary human actions applied by a nurse for example. We still need that.
So concluding. While AI is still a technology in development... It can be really helpful, but AI to our rescue? No, not at the moment...
Hi @lion200, what a great and positive comment!
But there will always be a yet, lurking in the shadows
Thanks for taking the time and passing by
You're welcome @jadams2k18!
Indeed, we will see in the near future where it is heading to :)
Interesting piece @jadams2k18.
Here is a fun and educational video featuring Sophia (Robot) and Will Smith:
The creators of Sophia are also behind the Singularity Net (AGI) cryptocurrency project, which lets anyone to create, share and monetize ai services with ease.
It's very creepy that Sophia.
I liked it a lot and I laughed at Will Smith trying to kiss the robot
@jadams2k18, No matter which Technology hold both positive and negative sides and these sides are created by the usage only means, human beings give Technology a negative face or positive face.
Hello @chireerocks!
Your opinion is interesting, however, this is more than a piece of technology, we are emulating a brain, something capable of thinking for itself, of creating for itself. We are entering an area that we still do not know where it is going to go. Everything we do is extensions of ourselves: a vehicle, our legs, the telephone is an extension of our voice, and so on. But a "thinking being" is an extension of our ability to create, decide and think. Imagine where this would evolve?
Frankenstein Monster?
Thanks for taking the time and passing by
Yes, in my opinion we are dealing with a subject regarding which we don't know if we are controlling it or it's controlling us. 🙂
@jadams2k18, No matter which Technology hold both positive and negative sides and these sides are created by the usage only means, human beings give Technology a negative face or positive face.

As more and more information about the real world becomes available digitally, the capacity to process such a huge number of information and get useful conclusions from them is becoming paramount and a big competitive advantage. And AI is the tool number one in that matter.
Hi, @discernente. Excellent comment!
You are very right about that. Some time ago I had read somewhere that the content of a newspaper (New York Times) in a day, had more information than a person of the nineteenth century could have in his entire life.
It is evident that the amount of information generated daily is huge, and we may not be able to analyze so much at the same time. Keeping abreast of what is happening in the world, in all areas (fashion, health, entertainment, science, etc.) is becoming increasingly difficult. One solution will be, as you indicate, the AIs.

Future human :
The main job is leisure tourism and entertainment.
And research and development intelligence.
Hi, @cloudblade!
You missed something: Future human will travel through stars, too. And Future Artificial Intelligence will help drive their starships.

Hah I'm not sure I like advanced AI because if they become sentient, pretty soon we get Battlestar Galactica (2004 version) or Chobits or something. I'd rather be on another planet maybe. 😂 I dunno.
Congrats on the OCD/blocktrades vote too! Wow. Haha.
Hello there! My dear friend!
I love Battlestar Galactica! I have a ringtone with their strange opening theme, hehehe
Besides, not all Cylons were bad
Thank you, but I think I should thank my friend @crypto.piotr and his friends for that!
Thanks for taking the time
Oh I see. Haha.
Cool ringtone then. I've yet to see anyone who has it around here. I only have a copied "official" hoodie. That's how I love BSG. It kept me warm at work and the hoodie was how I met a certain someone too. 😂😂😂
Oooohh!!! Someone was lucky!
Hahaha but then again we already parted ways... 😅

I read about the contest but since I am not familiar with Echo and Alexus and my connection sucks I let go on this one. I am an old fashioned person.
After reading your post, which I will share, the "Raspberry pie" did pop up in my mind.
As I understand Alexus needs an internet connection (I wonder how people will stay alive if their AI is not able to function if the connection is slow or the power down.
Would that be the same for my robot pet or friends (saw the films: Real human and AI?).
Perhaps the radio will be smarter as well just like the fridges already are (I do not have them any longer).
I don't know if virtual assistance will be able to take over the care of people with Alzheimer if they are as stupid as the ones we have instead of human customer services it will only make them more confused and angry.

Hello and welcome @wakeupkitty!
I don't think so you are an old fashioned person. You're using Partiko, I'm beginning to use it and I'm still afraid to it, he he he.
Thanks for sharing my post
I always considered a world with unlimited electric power and an excellent internet conection in my post, not from Venezuela perception. Here, those AIs would have already committed suicide
Don't you have a fridge? Where do you keep your food?
God willing, I do hope that in the future the intelligence will surpass the stupidity, at least the artificial one.
Don't be a stranger, keep in touch
Thanks for coming by
I quit using one, my fridge was always empty and there is plenty to eat that does not need a fridge at all or I eat it the same moment/day.
If it comes to it you dont need much to stay alive.
My power is down frequently and to be honest I dont like a live controlled by electronics which ends if the power is down.
We stay in touch.

Probably, we (Venezuelans) end up like you. But, but, but.... Ice creams? Beers? Ice!?
Ice creams and ice is not my kind of stuff 🤐
