Truth About Tipping

in #alive4 months ago

Tips

Tipping has become a hot debate on social media, and I find it ridiculous. I’ve worked in a restaurant since I was a kid, so let me tell you what I think about tips in Malaysia and the UAE.

You Don't Have to Tip

Yes, I said it. I don’t care if any servers get angry reading this because when you're a customer, you only need to pay for the food. There is no such thing as mandatory tips.

Tips Are Optional

Yes! Tips are optional. No one can force you to tip. It's YOUR choice. If you like the service, you don’t have to tip either, because it's not your job or your obligation to take care of others.

That’s the truth about tips, nothing more, nothing less. I'm not sure about other countries, but I’ve seen that in the US, what I read from Facebook, Instagram, and others, is that waiters don’t have salaries? So they depend on tips? I don’t understand that. If you know or live in the US, please enlighten me about this situation. If it’s true, that is crazy actually.

Of course, when you tip, people will treat you better, and you will be seen as a generous man or woman. It’s a normal thing, and you do get better service because you make the servers feel appreciated, which is lacking in this industry due to the high-pressure, long-hour work.

At the end of the day, it’s your choice. As for the Food and Beverage workers, don’t ever get angry if people don’t tip. Life is hard, and we all have to get used to it and find other sources of income, or you can improve your social skills to get more tips. There is always a way to do this without begging or forcing your guests to tip you.

There is one thing I always do, and it works 70% of the time: BE HONEST. It’s that simple. When guests ask for the bill and I show them the online payment, there is a default 7% tip on the online payment. I always tell them this:

“This is the items you ordered, and below is the tips. You can remove it if you want.”

To my surprise, they cancel the 7% and put either 10% to 15% tips from their total bill.

In Conclusion

You don't have to tip but it is greatly appreciated no matter how small it is if the workers do not look appreciative take it back seriously lol 🤣 hope you guys enjoy this one take care and keep safe everyone.

I agree wholly. One should not be compelled into giving tips and honesty is indeed endearing plus it has great rewards.

True it has reward me quite a lot in the past and in the present.

You said it, brother! Tips can't be mandatory, or they're not tips, they're fees! The tipping situation in the US is that waiters and waitresses that work in restaurants usually make much less in pay because they receive tips, so they really do quite depend on them. The best way to get ripped is to treat people kindly and do damn good job. 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

So In the US they do get paid doing the job but how less is the pay until they can't sustain themselves?

Not sure about US but in Malaysia and UAE what we do is we rent a small room together with all the workers about 3 to 10 people to save money so we can send money to family as well the salary is low but if everyone work together it will be doable.

But I do disagree this is not how we should be living small room 10 people is crazy actually did it few times myself and damn it's not good especially when you're a person like me who likes to be alone at home haha 😆

An example of the pay difference would be a regular retail job making $12/hour compared to a waiter/waitress job which is often around $3!/hour. The difference is stupid. Also, with the accelerating global fiat currency collapse, almost nobody can afford to live now.

That's how many foreign workers, especially those from Latin America, do it, many people staying in one room to be able to save funds to send to families abroad.

Exactly, people aren't supposed to be living like that, not by a long shot! I understand, I need my own time and space to be alone and do my own thing too! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

Remember that the America of today is far from its roots. It's going to get worse before it gets better, but the USA will shine again. Like many countries it's being intentionally destroyed from within, but the demise of the US is essential for the New World Order to succeed, that's why there's so much focus on it. Soon it will rise again, along with many other countries.😁🙏💚✨🤙

If you know or live in the US, please enlighten me about this situation.

American here. Sad but true, most American restaurant workers depend on tips to make their daily wage. Restaurants are actually allowed to pay workers LESS than the guaranteed minimum wage because it is assumed that the tips earned while working will make up for the difference in wages.

Currently in the US, 18-20% tipping is the norm, with exceptional service getting 25% or more. The whole situation for tipping in the US is crazy, because it is simply the bosses passing on the cost of labor to the consumers. And anytime you decide not to tip that much when out in public, you are shamed if you do not mee the public standard set by rich people who intentionally decide to be cheap!!

I understand what you are saying but that does not make sense how could governement allow such thing? its like going to work in a restaurant but you need to hope and beg at the same time no wonder i see so many videos where the waiter/waitress shame the customers for it if they do not tip or tip them less.

18 to 25% is so much if i were there i cannot tip that much i will be broke in few days lol. for the rich people not tipping we cant blame them as well this is more of a law of minimum wages rather than force people to tip more because business owners refuse to pay normal wages to humans its crazy.
