Tacna Cathedral is located in the heart of Tacna in Peru and is a historical church that was built in 1875 by a French Firm known owned by Alejandro Gustave Eiffel. Its neo-renaissance style of architecture adds to its illuminating façade. Although the construction started in 1875, formally the church was completed in 1954 due to the ongoing war. The construction was temporarily stopped majorly due to the War of the Pacific that took place in 1879. It is pretty easy to locate and is situated opposite to the Paseo Civic, which is another prominent place for tourists.

The façade of the church is highly baroque with two towers on the side. The sandstone color comes from the stones it is constructed with which are specifically quarried from hills of Intiorko and Arunta. At night, the church illuminates radiating golden light. The inside of the church is decorated with simple altar design, but the colorful stained glass adds to the whole beauty of the place. It has an onyx high altar that is very eccentric of the church, and despite the minimalistic interiors, the stained glass window with the altar designs makes the church a delightful church to visit.

This cathedral is the main cathedral of the city and is one of the examples for a beautiful colonial church designed by a French company. The historical role it played during the Pacific War is pretty interesting to know. The architectural brilliance with the profound history embedded together makes it an interesting place to visit. The church is pretty much accessible, and boulevard walking to the church has gazebos where the visitors can sit under the shade and rest. It is a simple and not very ornate church from inside but stands strong with its Francophile history. The Paseo Civico is just opposite to the cathedral, which is lined with gorgeous trees and flowers adding to the overall experience.

The church is well maintained, and a number of windows in the church also has Masonic content that is of interest to historians and symbolists. The visiting hours for the church is from Monday to Sunday from 7.00 am to 12.30pm and then from 3.00 pm to 7.30 pm. It is open for visitors to come and see the architecture. There are masses and prayers mostly organized on Sundays where a large number of people come and visit the church to attend the mass.
