Get to know one of the animals included in the insect group

Dragonflies are insects (Class Insects) are members of Kingdom Animalia that have the most number of other groups, their number on the earth is about 80% of all animal species. One of the orders contained in the insect class is Odonata or by Indonesians known as "dragonflies" (Indonesia), Papatong (Sunda), Kinjeng (Java).

Dragonflies (Odonata) have periods of life in two different worlds. Before entering adulthood, members of Odonata live in clean water, thus belonging to a group of aquatic insects. But as adults no longer live in the water but fly or perched on the trees around the water. Usually when the sun starts to heat up, many types of Odonata fly in the air, or perched on twigs.

The role of Dragonflies for the sustainability of ecosystems is enormous, one of them being a predator for several pests. His life as a predator from nymph to adulthood, controls other insect populations. The role played by dragonflies creates a balance in the ecosystem. Besides that there are other benefits that can be felt directly by humans. When the Dragonflies are nymphs, the role is as a predator of mosquito larvae, so the number of mosquito populations in nature can be reduced. After growing adult dragonfly to help farmers in the fight against agricultural pest insects such as aphis, fruit flies, lice, and other insect pests.

Dragonflies can also be used as bioindicators of water quality. some nymphs of dragonfly families are grouped into categories of water insects that are sensitive to contamination. Dragonflies include water insects that are very sensitive to changes in the content of substances in the water. So that the change in the number of dragonfly nymphs can be used as an indicator of the good and bad waters.

Given the role of dragonfly that is so great for human life, it's time we start to pay attention to the preservation of his life. The simplest thing we can do is to change the pattern of life, by always keeping the aquatic environment to remain in a clean state. Do not throw garbage or waste into the environment carelessly especially in waters.
