For over four centuries, Galle has been a preserve of the colonial era.
Probably the biggest proof is the Dutch Fortress, which occupies an incredible area of thirty-six hectares

On 26 December 2004, one of the greatest natural disasters in modern history of mankind has occurred. Sri Lanka was the second most affected country by a devastating tsunami. One of the most affected places was the city of Galle. There were several thousand people left here, especially in the new city. The old city was destroyed, but the walls largely protected the city from destruction.
