Watch my painting "Coy" come to life in 4min time-lapse video - One of my first time-lapse videos and why she is so special to me

in #art8 years ago (edited)

I wanted to share with you all one of the very first time-lapse videos I ever created for my youtube channel.

At the time I didn't have an ideal setup and honestly had no idea what I was doing LOL, but I wanted to share it anyways, because "Coy" was one of the first paintings I ever sold in my first ever gallery show and she's always been very special to me as well as one of the first paintings I recorded the process for.

hopefully you can see the improvement from this early video to my newest ones, because I've learned a lot along the way and practice really does make perfect.

She started out as usual with very lights washes of yellows toned done with purple and a touch of pink.

I then slowly start to build up the layers on the eyes and lips and define the shadows

Then its time to start really defining the details and adding the little touches that bring the piece to life

Art Tip

Straws can create a great effect with watercolours and really any type of watery paint. I dabbed a little bit of watercolour above the eyelid and then blew through the stray onto the paint to get the below starburst effect.

I didn't have a preconceived notion for the colour scheme, hair or details I was going to add to "Coy" and I think thats why I love this piece so much, the red and black afro style hair just really makes her pop and that was a total fluke... I had just bought a comb brush and wanted to try it out and luckily it worked out great.

Every time I sell a painting, I provide the buyer with a handwritten thank you note on my personalized artist post cards as well as a signed COA with some background on the piece.

The couple who purchased her, actually sent me a letter later on, to tell me how much they loved her and how she proudly hung in their living room, which was a beautiful surprise, because I had never met the buyers and was happy to know that they were enjoying her as much as I enjoyed creating her.

Sometimes I think that "coy" created herself, she knew who she wanted to be and she made me make her exactly the way she wanted.

Here is the time-lapse video for this piece, I hope you enjoy it :)

This is really beautiful. Amazing work as always. Great choice of music too.

Thank you! I really appreciate your feedback and so glad you like her 😊😊

How do you make your subjects' eyes look so wet and realistic?

I use lots and lots of layers and build them up slowly, it really helps to get a more realistic effect. Also little touches of white will give the eyes moisture and make them look yet, ill be doing a tutorial soon on how to paint realistic eyes 😊😊

Beautiful artwork. I really love how you used the watercolour technique. Thanks for sharing :)

Thanks @yogi.artist I really appreciate your feedback, watercolours is one of my favourite mediums :)

Gorgeous! I create watercolour fairies using the same straw technique. I think you have a little more control than me though!
