"Blinded by Beauty" [watercolor]

in #art7 years ago

Hello friends! I created this for a friend who requested it (she had seen something like it on pinterest I think, or Instagram....or somewhere) - the nice thing I like about this is that the rose petals are from the roses I planted earlier this year! I took some of the petals and then flattened them in a book, having no idea what I might use them for in the future - but I think they look great in this piece. Now I'm only sad that I didn't flatten more - guess I'll have to wait till next summer to restock on my flower petals!

What do you guys think? It was really weird doing this and not including the eyes - eyes are one of my favorite things to do!

Also, great news, I got my camera in the mail and I'm very close to starting my video series "Learn art with me"! I'm looking forward to getting that off the ground. Youtube has so many channels dedicated to art tutorial videos and I felt it was something that Steem could use too!

Here is the final, framed piece:

Fantastic art!

thanks!

just out of curiosity, did you purchase steem on an exchange and then put it into your account? I see you're new and you have only one post but you already have a good amount of steem!

I converted some of my ethereum holdings to steem on bittrex. I have not started posting regularly yet. Will do an introduction soon, and then see how things go.

ok, cool. Welcome to Steemit :)
What type of stuff do you think you'll blog about?

Mostly related to investing as I am one.

what are the coins you are most bullish on?

Cardano and Steem

I love it! 😍

thanks!

I used to draw a lot back in grade school. there are times that I wish that i have pursued it more and learned some of the techniques of coloring. Love what you did with the flowers and how you coloured them. They look so alive.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for your "learn art with me" posts :)

I wish I could color flowers that well! Those are actual rose petals from my garden that I had dried! I glued them onto the paper.
Well it is never too late to start learning art! Def keep an eye out for my videos :) Coming soon!

Hah! lol. I missed that part where you glued the petals! Now i feel silly :p

Looks Great :) The flowers give it a nice extra 3d look

thanks, yeah I like the extra texture

So beautiful - are the flowers real or painted - they are so dimensional - they POP off that paper. I really like seeing your process!

They are real. I planted some roses earlier in the year and dried/flattened some petals which ended up working perfectly for this piece. I wish I could paint flower petals that good!

I love multimedia painting/collage! I make one painting that was covered in tiny gemstones so that there was a rainbow of light shining through them in certain sunlight.

Wow! Where the natural and talent come together.

haha, yep! At first I thought you were asking "where" the natural talent came from and I figured you would know.

Now that is some of steemit's best art, but I've always felt your art was heads and tails above just about anyone hear. You watercolor techniques are coming alone really well. Once you get the feel of it you can go as washy or detailed as you wish!

Thanks so much! Man, the watercolor....it's a hard one to master. I was going for a particular look for the hair when I started, and it just wasn't happening! So I ended up with what it is, which wasn't what I envisioned, but I'm still ok with how it turned out. I have a love/hate relationship with watercolor, but mostly love :) It's like we're kind of going through a slight rough patch but I know our relationship will be better on the other side lol Every time I think I start to get the hang of making a nice smooth gradient wash it reminds me that I have a lot more practicing to do!

Watercolor takes on the nature of water, it is always changing and moving. You can catch the details like you with your pencils and charcoals but you have to use less water and different kinds of brush strokes, gouache is very helpful as well. I've been trying to loosen up so I love this one because it's so free.

Yeah that makes sense. I have been meaning to get some gouache for a long time, but have yet to do so, hopefully soon....I am definitely due for another trip to the art store, it has been quite a while!

I bought my art supplies on overstock.com using coinbase as a wallet if you want to use some of your sbd....

hmm....interesting, I didn't know you could do that! I don't have coinbase right now, I might have to look into that. I use Binance/Bittrex and then Gemini.

This is amazing, I love the concept! Thanks for sharing @artistchristian !

Thanks for your awesome shares - i just started to follow you :)

The title is perfect for this one. And as always, perfectly executed. Another instant classic ☺

Thanks :) I have to admit I didn't come up with the title! I posted this work first on Sola (have you heard of it? It's kind of like twitter...sort of - another blockchain platform) and I asked what I should call it and this was one of the titles - I thought it fit well too!

I have heard of Sola but haven't checked it out yet. Thanks!

Ohoho! And I saw where you got the name, too. Awesome!! So psyched about the camera!! I can't wait to start practicing on the eyes once I get home.

I've already praised the photo elsewhere but I'm still at awe of it every time I see it. This is perfect for me since there are no eyes involved haha! Great work with this masterpiece, brother!

haha, you're right this would be the perfect piece to practice eyes! You wouldn't be able to mess them up! Thanks man, i'm looking forward to it too. When do you get back from SK?

Haha! I'm sorry I didn't see this before, but yeah. "I'm back," I shout from five days ago.

Really great concept with flower pedals!:)

thanks! I was glad I saved them from the summer!

So beautiful!

I appreciate it! thanks for stopping by!
