2021 music video work

in #art3 years ago

A week ago I shot my first music video of 2021!

And it’s for an absolutely belting track from Chris Catalyst.

It was weird to be back in the performance music video scenario after such a long time.
I felt like I had forgotten how to do anything - and so did Chris - but quickly my experience and instinct kicked in, and I was rushing around like normal setting things up and figuring out my priorities. It felt like old times again. Pre-pandemic.

These are lights I chose for this video shoot.
I had a specific vision in mind and planned out the visuals around the versus and chorus.

It was a ‘neon’ inspired video. That’s what informed the lighting style an tone of the video atleast. There’s not a whole head of neon in there, but I was drawn to the idea of deep vibrant reds and blurred out lines of light. I wanted it dark in tone with patches of lights.
I bought a few remote controlled LED ‘neon’ style panels (above) which worked brilliantly.

They’re super versatile and can run through the rainbow of colours and brightness at the push of a button.
Plus they last up to 12 hours on their internal rechargeable battery. Very handy to put up anywhere.

This is the first video I’ve directed and shot on a RED camera too. The image from the camera is beautiful and super versatile.
The unit and lenses actually belongs to Tom, an amazing videographer who I enjoy collaborating with on projects like this.

We used it in a whole different heap of ways from a gimbal/mini-jib combo (on a force mobile control setting) to use on a slider with an awesome probe lens, to simply the gimbal performing 360 barrel rolls.

Looking back we really did achieve an awful lot in a one day shoot. The edit is 90% done with only a few minor tweaks to make, including colour grade work.
It happy with how it’s turned out and I look forward to sharing it!

I love working on great songs from underground artists like this.
It’s an organic and artistic process, and always fulfilling to be a part of.

Cheers for reading, @ashtv.

Looking forward to seeing the fruit of your labour... funny how just a relatively small gap can make you feel like a noob again.

Totally! Felt quite out of my depth

(For about 35 seconds) (but still)

Thanks for continuing to make Hive awesome.

Always 💪🏻
