Ok, this post is long overdue, but after seeing @carlgnash's nudey post this morning, I've decided now is the perfect time to put my boobs on the block and donate whatever liquid steem they raise to help fund @llfarms' steemfest trip.
So Carl, I'll see your er... banana and raise you two papayas!
For everyone not in the know, there's been an ongoing discussion in the Curie curator's server about making a "Men of Curie" calendar for steemfest. Carl is the most enthusiastic since he's now made two posts with his gear off.
Back in May before I went to Greece, I went to Vienna for a few days. This is a city that I'd previously visited when I lived in Scotland for a few years, so I didn't go for the touristy things. Instead I went to meet @bella-volen-art, a gorgeous steemian who I've become friends since she joined the platform.
Our relationship started when she pinned one of her early posts to steemit worldmap. She writes awesome travel posts and takes beautiful photos. She's also an amazing artist. In fact, she has become one of my favourite artists. I love her style and the colours she typically uses. She's also a vegan and last Christmas she sent me some handmade vegan soap.
One of Bella's specialties is body painting, which she's super talented at it. She has a bunch of posts on her blog and they are all amazing. I challenge you to find someone who is better at it than her.
At some point late last year I thought to myself "I would really like to get my body painted by Bella". I sat on this for a while, since I didn't know how or when it would manifest. Then, when I was in Australia last December and the Greece trip came up, a side trip to Austria seemed like the perfect opportunity. I contacted Bella and we organised a date. I told her what I was broadly thinking and we came up with a vegan, mother nature theme. I then commissioned her to do the work (it was not free in case anyone is wondering).
Finally, the day of the commission arrived and I was super excited. First, we went to some florists near her apartment to get some flowers and leaves. Then we got an uber van large enough to carry the painting which would serve as the backdrop, to her studio. There was a surprising amount of prep involved to get the paints set up so while she did that, I walked around a nearby shopping mall.
When I got back it was time for a tasty vegan lunch which she'd prepared. On a side note, Vienna is great for vegan food so I totally recommend going there if you're vegan. The day before we had Budha bowls for lunch at Veggiezz, then ice cream at an all-vegan ice cream chain, Veganista. So good!
I think we started the body painting at around 1.30pm and it went for a full 12 hours. It's a really long day which is hard for both people. It was tough for me since I had to stand still for much of the time. Then it's obviously hard for Bella because she was bending a lot.
Apparently yogis and dancers make the best models because they are the best at standing still. However, despite my 20-ish years of practising yoga and standing in Tadasana, I found my feet were the least comfortable part of my body and I had to shift my weight between them between every paint. I had flip-flops on most of the time, but they still hurt. Some parts you can sit down for (like your arms) so that helps. You can also take breaks when required since the body paint is pretty robust once it's dry. Eating and staying hydrated are also really important because there's a risk of passing out from being on your feet so for long.
Bella shares a studio with another artist called Xenia Ostrovskaya. She was there for about half the day working on a painting for an exhibition she had coming up. I liked her and the conversation between the three of us was good. Being in good company helped pass the time given how long the painting process was.
Even though it took ages, getting painted was a pleasant experience. The feeling of the brush on your skin is really nice. Kinda massage-y. There were a couple of ticklish areas around my rib-cage, but overall I enjoyed the process.
A few hours before the photo shoot Bella sculpted my hair. This was so it had sufficient time to dry so she could paint it. It's weird cos there are no mirrors so I had no idea what it looked like, it just felt heavy and stiff. I was also thinking "how easy is this going to be to wash out?"
Obviously the longer we went, the more naked I became until I was literally down to a thong. Then as it got darker more lights came on. There are no blinds in Bella's studio, but there are a whole bunch of apartments on the other side of the courtyard. Basically those residents would have gotten a free show if they'd looked out their windows. Body painting probably isn't for anyone with nudity issues.
Eventually the painting process was finished, my eyelashes were on, and it was time for the photo shoot. These (and the top one) were my favourites. It turns out I have a good side!
Bella lent me a kimono for the uber ride back to her apartment (she was kind enough to let me stay at her place while I was in Vienna). I was glad I didn't have to go home naked!
It was around 2am by the time we finished and got back to her apartment, but I had to be up at 7am to catch my flight to Greece. Getting the paint off probably took about an hour. Most of it washed off easy enough, but there were pigment stains on my skin for several days despite exfoliating, then using baby wipes and coconut oil to try and remove them. I also had a bit of paint behind my ears right in the crease, which I didn't know about until my friend in Greece asked why my ear was green one day. To my surprise, the paint and plaster in my hair washed out the easiest.
My vegan message and body painting time-lapse video
Despite finding paint on myself days later, I'm more than happy with the experience. I enjoyed the whole body painting process and I got some great photos to remember it by. Thank you Bella for your fantastic work, your hospitality, and making this experience possible.

WOW that must have been an incredible experience and that Body painting is amazing
Thank you. It was really awesome. I would do it again.
@choogirl I watched a few episodes of a body painting show on TV here and I must say you looked far better than anything they did
Why thank you! Being better than the tv models is quite the compliment.
@choogirl just mu honest opinion :)
Wow, choo! You look stunning!! Damn, just standing for 12 hours or more is so exhausting. But the results are totally worth it!! Kudos to you for supporting artists like @bella-volen-art, and to her as well for painting such gorgeous piece! Pretty sure if I am in Vienna I would also love my body to be painted by Bella. <3
Aaaand it's also nice how you two became friends because of the platform. Lovely!
Thank you! Bella is a lovely person and an amazing artist. I would never have known about her if it wasn't for steemit.
Awesome. Nice art work.
Thanks.
Amazing .good panting good mag..all the word......

The result is super beautiful though, you look like you're a dryad or some kind of nature spirit <3 <3 <3
A M A Z I N G
Thanks Spidey. It was a pretty special day and I really enjoyed it. I definitely liked being art!
Wow that's incredible! I bet it felt strange to be painted.. Well done for supporting her, can we ask how much did it cost???
It mostly felt nice. It was sad to wash it all off. It cost a lot. You're looking at at least a couple of hundred euros depending on what you want done.
Wow! amazing bodyart skills! Do you know if she learned it in a school in Vienna or did she learn it herself? :)
Thank you! You can read about her here (in German and English):

What an amazing post! I've been vegetarian for 20+ years and have considered going vegan, your post is very inspiring. How courageous are you posting pics wearing just a thong and paint and the artwork is very beautiful. Thanks for sharing and best of luck with your fundraiser.
Thank you. I just really wanted to do it after seeing how beautiful all her other body paintings were. This wasn't hard compared to other stuff I've done.
I never thought a person painted like that could look good, but you look ravishing, to use an out of date compliment.😁
I'll still take it. Thank you.
This is beyond amazing!
Thanks Ninj. Sorry I made you wait so long.
Wooooah @choogirl!! This is incredible! 🙀
Thank you!
Hoh my god I love it, do fantasy, almost a mother nature and its gifts (papayas too) and to help llfarms! Weee ♥️
Thanks. I hope I can throw a few steem LL's way.
wow choogirl what an amazing tactile experience. You look fantastic. I love it.
Thank you Angie.
Ok, so this set the bar up high. You look gorgeous, and wow, 12 hours?! Amazing.
Thank you. That's so nice of you to say.
Incredible! The patience that would have taken for the both of you is phenomenal, well wort it though :D
Thanks. It was all part of the experience. Every time I looked down, there was something new to see.
Amazing result, usually bodypainting reminds me of poor quality semi-erotic paintings, here the situation is completely different, everything is beautifully arranged in a very good style. Positive Surprise.
Yeah, there's a lot of people who don't know how to do it properly. That's why I wanted Bella to do it. She's amazing.
that's wild, it would be funny to go outside like that, maybe jump out of the bushes
Congratulations, Your Post Has Been Added To The Steemit Worldmap!

Want to have your post on the map too?
Amazing post Choo. How was your Uber drive home? Awkward small talk level: human forest. And I'm sure airport security wouldn't have minded if your sported this fresh look on your flight :p
It was all in German so I have no idea what Bella and the driver said. Lol, and even though they basically make you strip naked at airports these days I think facial recognition would have been a problem with all that paint.
This is awesome AF (aqu....as fuck I mean!)
Love this!
Would love to do this. I've only done minor belly and ass painting when I was pregnant 😁
Thanks Fairy. Hmm, having only 2 body parts painted seems a bit random. How did they turn out?
Well on two differ pregnancies tho! My first was on the belly, with my 2nd was on the butt lol
Werent done by professional, just me and my husband, nothing fancy like yours! But turned up memorable obv 😉 the belly was a pumpkin, whike the butt was a peach 🤣
Ah that makes much more sense! So you won't be posting them to the block then?

This is so cool! I am a big fan of @bella-volen-art as well, she is amazing! This turned out great, and if I (or my banana LOL) played any part in getting you to post this, that makes me happy!
I really like how your face kind of blends into the background in the one on the left above. Also, the one with the kimono on is really striking with the contrast between silk garment and your painted skin. This is an amazing post! Much love - Carl
Thanks Carl. I've been sitting on this for ages. It was 90% done. You did inspire me to post it today so thanks for that. The universe was obviously making me wait for a reason. Turns out your banana was it. 😁
I loooove the face, it has so much details. Everything else too but I love the blue. Such a great post I hope you get curied!!!!!
Thanks Eve. Yeah, I love what she did with my face and hair too. Obviously I couldn't see them until the end. I forgot I showed you some of the pics on my phone.
Wow. Amazing art! 12 hours is an epic painting session, but so worth it. 👌
Thanks Arly. It was fun being the art!
OMG 12 hours????!!!?? you must be so exhausted

Woah that's so epic! She's incredible artist. I love all the colours and theme. Well done for standing still all that time too!
Thanks Jessica. It was worth it.
So this is your secret project! That looks like such an awesome experience and you blend in so well with the background. Using papayas on your boobs is very apt, you know they say drinking papaya milkshake helps your boobs grow? 😉
Just curious, why didn't you start a bit earlier in the day? It seems such a pity to spend half a day doing the beautiful body painting and then wash it off so soon.
Thanks Living. We didn't actually start late. It was more by the time we did everything else that needed to be done and set up first, that's what time the painting started.
Incredible! This is really high body art! Amazing publication, thank you for having introduced me to such a talented artist! 😍😗😙😚🤗🤗
Thank you. Yes, go follow her although she's not posting much at the moment.
All your sides look good XP Bella does some amazing work! You look awesome :) and looks like you both had a good time hanging out too XD
Aw thanks Ry. We really did have fun hanging out. She's a cool person and she knew all the good veggie places.
Wow. What an amazing post, choo. Sooooo gooooooooooooddddd!!! And you would donate the liquid payout to lele too.... just super duper awesome.
Very detailed and interesting post about body painting, something that I have no idea about except that some people do it, but after reading your post, I am educated about the process and how long it takes. I don't think I have the stamina or bravery to do it, but good job on you both, because the result is just amazeball. You look like a nature goddess that becomes one with all the plants surrounding you.
And the video is amazing too of course, along with its conscientious message <3.
-upvoted-
Thanks Scrawly. I'm glad you liked it. Nature goddess is kinda what I was going for. Yeah, I don't know how she does it. It seems super hard to me but I guess we all have our talents.
Wow, this is amazing! What a talented artist Bella is.💜
Thank you, and she is.
All Hail the vegan Mother Nature. Bless us with papaya.
This is incredible. @carlgnash influence to make post this is gold.
Dante is here no fear
Cheers
Thanks. I would have posted it eventually, but it was a sign from the universe (or Carl) to post it now.
Unbelivable....👌 firstly i thought it was a painting, but never thoughy it could be real art on body. It looked as painted on canvas...hot carl to crazy choo....awesome👍

Lol. Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed Carl's "art" too.
Sensational. 12 hours is a huge commitment, but you have these incredible images now forever. Kudos for your bravery in sharing such intimate content.
Thanks! I didn't actually feel naked at all once I was painted, so it's fine.
The cops'll still arrest you though, even if you don't feel naked it still counts.
The judge was very clear on that point.
Speaking from experience are we Matt? 😀
12 hours of body paintig, what a time consuming event. Nice result.
Why thank you!

So they painted a papaya over them boobs and not a melon ;>
@choogirl
wow... nature girl.. its beautiful art on your body.. I like the face painting more 🍃🌼🌻💕💕
Thank you!
Caught this from clayboyn’s resteem. So I think this is your secret trip from memory?
OMG...
You were stunning and Bella did an amazing job. I especially loved the effect she created with your face and hair. Now I know what you’d look like if you were a woodland fairy. ❤️
Hanging you on my wall. Wow...
Thank you! Bella is an amazing artist, for sure. I'd do this again. Yes, this was the secret thing I was doing.
This is amazing! You are so brave and should look into doing this more often. Your body was made for art!
Thanks Kubby. I think it's more of a one-off rather than a regular thing though.
Highlight your art and the relationship with the natural, simply spectacular.
Thank you!
wow what a beautiful way to make art, this really is a great art, and i really do not know anyone who does it better than her. You stayed fantastic, it is amazing the combination of your body with the background, this is completely wonderful.
Thank you!
Amazing work of art! An experience to remember, I'm sure

Thanks @snooway. It definitely is.
I can't believe I missed this when you posted it.
That is some amazing work. I gotta say, it feels like it'd be a shame to have to wash it off. I assume you washed (most of) it off prior to your flight to Greece? I think getting on the plane in full body paint would definitely raise an eyebrow.
Thanks Neg. Yeah, it did seem a shame to wash it off, but what are you going to do? Lol. I would definitely be pulled up by security if I rocked up to the airport like that.
This is stunning! Love it, especially how she highlighted your eyelashes and face. Must be a fun and unforgettable experience! It's the post you said you were working on right? ;)
Thank you! It totally was. Yeah, I'd been working on this one for a while. I was waiting for the right time to post.
@choogirl What a beautiful story and tremendous experience of that kind of art. Really, meeting people through steemit is a very special experience. The video was very funny and at the same time it was seen that that art took several minutes to have that beautiful result. I really loved your experience! Greetings from Venezuela!
Thank you for your kind words.
Wow I've always thought body pain was the coolest, but this may be the BEST I've ever seen!!!!! I LOVE YOUR THEME!!!
omg so beautiful!!!!! haha I laughed when you said "I'll raise you two papayas."
Thanks for documenting the process so thoroughly! You answered all of the questions that I was thinking about in my head!
Oh wow thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed my post.
