Everyone needs time to unwind...
So, I’ve been playing a lot of Breath of the Wild the last few months. I actually started while I was still pregnant. I don’t play on a regular basis, but every now and then, I like disappear into the beautiful world of Hyrule for a few hours on a weekend. I don’t know what other people’s opinions are, but I actually think the little Bokoblins are sort of cute. My mom used to breed Boston Terriers, though, so that might explain my affinity for big-eared, googly-eyed, mushed-faced derps like these baddies.
I’ve continued to get more practice with my new iPad. I have been really pleased with how easily my traditional media skills have translated. The biggest bonus, however, is that I can now draw in the dark. This is key because after bedtime is the biggest chunk of time Ripley gives me to do my own thing. Incidentally, after bedtime is also when I do most of my video gaming in Hyrule.
Last night I took this free time to color a drawing that I created at work. Honestly, I still have a long way to go to get back to my former digital art skill level. A lot of the decisions I made were inefficient and the piece overall took much longer than it probably should have. That being said, everyone has to start somewhere, in my case RE-start, and I I think it turned out pretty well considering that it was a random whim of an idea.
I didn’t time myself (sorry), but I would estimate that it took something in the area of 4-6 hours, possibly longer. As with the last digital drawing, this was created using Procreate on the 10.5” iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil. I also made the music and time-lapse video using GarageBand and iMovies (respectively) using the same hardware.
That’s it for now. I have had a couple more ideas for illustrations here and there, but nothing has really piqued my curiosity quite like this one did. So, it looks like bi-weekly posts are doable at the moment, so I will try to keep up that pace until I begin staying home with my kiddo.
Until next time!

Oh, this is so cute and fanciful :) I really love it; thank you for sharing!
Thank you for the kind words! 💛
You are most welcome @hglucky13 😅
I have been wanting to play another Zelda game for ages. This looks great. Love the chill warmth within the concept, if that makes sense.
I think I understand what you’re saying. BotW is definitely worth checking out.

Hello @hglucky13, thank you for sharing this creative work! We just stopped by to say that you've been upvoted by the @creativecrypto magazine. The Creative Crypto is all about art on the blockchain and learning from creatives like you. Looking forward to crossing paths again soon. Steem on!
This is so good, I can't get over it! Love the drawing and I'm obsessed with the game XD I wish there was still more for me to do, but I beat it :'(
I know, I keep putting off the last guardian because I have so much left to do (temples, armor upgrades, Koroks, etc.). I’m not big on completionism, but I’ve enjoyed this game so much that it doesn’t feel like a chore to get everything.
@hglucky13 ! aaah it has been a while ! this is very lovely <3 i love the video process and the final picture is very adorable <3 <3 <3
Thank you! Without going into excessive detail, when we switched daycares, my schedule changed and now I only have 30 minutes for lunch instead of 60. It's difficult to eat, draw anything decent, and relax a bit all in half an hour. My last day is August 10th, though, so I'm hoping to start posting more regularly and frequently after that.
This is very cool! I am stunned by that video, is that made by your drawing app? I don't really understand all the different layers but it seems like you get more exacting each time....
Steem on! Steem should enhance life not impede, so if bi-weekly works for you, it works for me! Following you now ;p
Thank you so much!
Yes, Procreate has a feature where it will capture your strokes and allow you to export the video. It's nice that it uses the brush strokes and not time because this removes random dead zones when I have to set things down and attend to my daughter.
As for the layers, I probably took one too many steps to refine the drawing (part of getting re-acclimated to digital illustration). Usually the sequence goes thumbnail/layout, rough sketch, detailed sketch, ink, flat color, and shading. This one had a couple of those steps split in to two because I was scared to make a mistake 😳.
Thank you again for the kind words and the follow! Off to check out your page now!
Very interesting, yes comparing to your last post of the face I can see that you have added a medium sketch between rough and detailed, and maybe even an extra detailed sketch on the big guy. Its cool how it lets you sketch the teapot a bit further away and then move it in.
Gotta love Link and his adventures, and the best part is that he seems to do so well with fan art. There are just so many versions of him already, he can take it ;p.
My blog is a bit of a mixed bag right now, we've been on the road for almost a month, but its given me a chance to comment a lot and find new blogs to follow!
