Gale Force - original paintings

in #art7 years ago

Gale Force was (actually still is) a series of paintings where I paint creatures/figures standing up and facing the storm.

It started with "Gale Force 8" (which I actually got from a Blackadder Goes Forth-quote), which depicts one obvious (and several not-so-visible) creatures ready to face the storm:

(Original not available, in private collection) I may have posted this picture before, so if Cheetah finds me, I'm guilty as charged - it still is my own painting though!

The format of this painting was 80x140cm (the width (80cm)) according to the Gale Force (being 8)

I then also painted Gale Force 1 (with the width of the painting according to 10cm - and I know, wind-force 1 isn't very much of a Gale)

Gale Force 5 (50x70cm - only one still available!)

Gale Force 6 (60x90cm)

So, what I have left to do in this series:
Gale Force 2 (20x30cm)
Gale Force 3 (30x40cm)
Gale Force 4 (40x60cm)
Gale Force 7 (70x100cm)
Gale Force 9 (90x140cm)
Gale Force 10 (100x150cm)
Gale Force 11 (110x160cm)
Gale Force 12 (120x180cm)

Any takers out there?

Thanks for watching, feel free to upvote if you like any of these paintings and do leave a comment - a non-spammy-one will get an upvote, a spammy one will get a reply that will either mock you or make a little bit of fun of you, so everybody can enjoy! Thank you!

Really inspiring and much appreciated!
I love the minimalism in those paintings as well. Nothing distracts from the creatures.
Also I find very cool that you show them in different visions (sharp/blurry).
If I had to choose my favorite, I'd have to go with Gale Force 8.. probably also because of the slight yellow touch you added there.

Hey, thanks! Yeah, painting on a small format tends to lead to a bit different style than the bigger canvases. And the bigger the more awesome to paint :)
Thanks for your comment, much appreciated!

I scrolled down for all the mocking... hmm... I am only partly satisfied... guess I'll have to come back later and check again :P

Hehe, when writing my post I anticipate the spam, but when it's actually there I can't bring myself to much mocking. Sorry! :)

heh... yeah, i am having a little fun myself now, then :P

Go for it!

Moody and terrifying in all the best ways.

I remain sincerely yours,
a fan.

Thank you, sir, much appreciated!

Wow!😊😊

Thank you for your wonderful work

Oh, thanks for the support there, I'm all for upvoting good content!

Quick tip, even if your voting power is low, or small, do give an upvote, especially if you're claiming to support somebody. It gives a better impression - I'm not begging for your vote here, just saying you can really practice what you preach, right here on steemit. Be gentle and free with your upvotes, really. Your voting power will replenish, so you can upvote daily, on and on - every day without losing money.

It's fun really! Comment back if you truly find it fun; instead of posting a comment for the $0.15 I just gave you - I'm not being sarcastic, really want to help here :)

yeah... educate em!

Hehe, the irony, eh :)

Love these! Fantastic mood and mystery that makes me want to know more. I can almost hear the storm blowing. Great job!

Hey, thanks! Yep, the storm's a coming!

A series of paintings where I paint creatures/figures standing up and facing the storm.

It's exatly this kind of (a bit weird) stories around your paintings, that keeps fascinating me.

Also that the size of the painting refers to the gale number, is such an inspiring idea.

Do you create those ideas before you start painting, during the painting process or after you did the Gale Force 8 painting (which is my favorite of the series so far)?

Hey, thanks :) If I have to describe it, it's really organic - a painting leads to an idea, which leads to a series, which leads to other paintings... Or an idea leads to a painting which leads to a story... It really goes back and forth in intuitive ways - just like you had confidence in the package arriving, remember? It's hard to describe, but I think you know what I mean - when you mailed me you were certain it would arrive somehow -- I guess somehow I trust the process will find it's own way of giving me ideas, stories, paintings, words, music, inspiration, ... to continue.

If that makes sense, somehow, I hope it does :)

And, by the way, your confidence about the package arriving somehow strenghtened mine :)

So, recapping your question: sometimes an idea leads to a series, and sometimes a series leads to an idea. It all works best when it's fun :)

Thanks for describing this process, totally makes sense to me, cause I also work in an intuitive way most of the time. Maybe I should also try to embed some of my works into a context. At least it's very inspiring. But as you said, "it works best, when it's fun..."

your confidence about the package arriving somehow strenghtened mine :)

That's an interesting observation, cause the other way around having doubts, often weakens the confidence of others.

Another great series built around an unusual theme. I'm constantly amazed at how much information can be suggested from the simplest shapes and textures.

Thanks @bzaryp - it can be a quest to find those shapes and textures, but I'm definately happy with these end results :)

Nice!! Dark and moody, little bit scary... If I had a place to hang one I'd be up for getting one of these. Hopefully a like and a re-steem will do insted. :)

Hey, thanks, exactly that :) And yeah, that first one is quite big to have in your room. Thanks for the resteem!

Oh I love them. Though abstract and minimal, they have a great expression of lurking victims

Thanks @patschwork! Although I do not see these as victims, but I see your point!
I do envision these as standing strong; weathering the wind, rain and storm, no matter what... :)

Quick steemit-tip: it's no use to upvote a post older than 7 days, but I apprecaite it anyway!

I actually meant lurking for victims, sorry :P

Oh boy, I still have to learn so much about Steemit, thanks...

Haha, quite a different thing :)

And no worries, learn as you go!

really incredible photo really likes me.like @masterayi and vote

It's all about the photos with you guys... meh... why do you fail to realise that no matter how much a photo likes you, it's just the surface that you see. The real love is to be found within the subject itself.
