SeaHorse Watercolor + Acrylic //original painting + the process of making + tips&tricks//

in #art7 years ago

Hello my dear Steemians,

I would like to show you this painting that I dedicated to myself :) I've realized that there are so many paintings I've given as a gift to my friends and family, but only one before this one long time ago that I gave to myself.

So here it is, a SeaHorse living in an Ocean with many other amazing and beautiful creatures! I really enjoyed making it and now I'm so happy every time I see it on my wall :)

Now, I would like to show you the process of making it and also one really useful tip when painting with watercolors.

First, as always I make a sketch with a pencil of what I would like to draw. To be honest, I've spent hours on making my SeaHorse look exactly the way I imagined it :) I planned to have a mountain in the upper left corner but later on, I've realized that I really wanted the sunset to be there.

After I've finished my sketch, I soaked the whole paper in the water so it won't get too wrinkled when I start painting with watercolors (as I didn't really have high-quality watercolor paper, just this standard 300 g paper). This is how I did it:

This really helped! Thanks, World Wide Web for this tip! hehe

Finally, I've started to apply watercolors and the reason why it has this interesting texture is that I used Sea Water :) Tip here is really to apply lots and lots of color so the final work doesn't turn out to be too pale.

I was making the Ocean deep with the use of many shades of blue. From light blue too deep darker blue.

And I really enjoyed painting these animals in their colors. Just applying the ''first layer'' of it.

At the end, I colored the SeaHorse as well and this is how it looked like when the paper finally got dry.

While applying the acrylic touch I got so into it that I didn't take any pictures of the process, just this one at the end. The marks on the SeaHorse are my horoscope's sign (Aquarius) star constellation.

And here are some details of the painting:

I hope you enjoyed watching the process and that you maybe learned something new.

Nice tip and very cute painting, I like the addition of the constellation of Aquarius, so dipping the paper on water, haven't tried that, need to try it out. Overall awesome painting

I'm glad you find it useful and when I found out about that it was a revelation :) thanks!

Some tips more, try to by some better quality paper, like fabriano, 300 gr or hahne muller 450gr, than soak them, but leave them to stay in water for few minutes, that's when paper will be equally wet. Than put paper tape all over, and you will have great surface for work.
Good post you made, thanks for sharing.

Wow, thanks for the tips! I have to find a store in Zagreb where they are not so expensive...but now I'm sure of what I'm looking for! I'm glad you like it! Thanks!

Go into some specialized store, you can by Fabriano paper size 50x70 and cut it yourself in smaller sizes, also look up for watercolor brands Van Gogh, Schminke or White nights, my faworite. You can buy them in pans so you can make your own palette. You will see the diference once you try things on better materials. If you buy peace by peace it would be easier for wallet :)

Ok, will do. Thanks for the heads up dear!

Not really into art myself (My sister is amazing at it though). I just wanted to say thank you for flagging that guy who was passing off someone else's drawing as his own to try and make money. I'm always apprehensive to flag someone like that as they have nothing to lose, so they may start 'rage flagging' all of your posts. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for keeping the Steemit community honest and you've earned yourself a follow :-)

You're welcome. Yes, that's the thing, most of the people are afraid to flag, but to be honest, I'm here because of the community, not because of the money so he can flag how much he wants but these people know that I'm not fake...that's all that matters to me. :) Cheers!
