It's the Z-end: Welcome to the Zombie Apocalypse CHAPTER 22

March 29, 2012 07:11 AM

After about two hours, the sound of guns started to be heard in the direction of the centre. First there were some isolated shots. Later the noise of the detonations increased and became for a moment a loud roar. I would swear that for a moment I heard detonations as if they were c4's. The FAES was withdrawn to several points in Venezuela in the last few days but there is still a considerable contingent here that seems to be killing those bastards very well. The application has been saturated for an hour, an endless hour, full of hysterical messages from one unit to another. Calls for help, urgent calls for ammunition, battalions asking for help because they were surrounded, many reports of casualties, meeting points, points down, francs exceeded..... And little by little, the silence... The noise of firearms has gradually ceased and at dawn there was absolutely nothing to be heard. The radios are mute, dead, or rather dead.... From the terrace I can see a smoke rising above the center, marking the spot where the Punto Seguro de Caracas was once located.

A dozen or two of those bastards have been hanging around the residence. One of them is repeatedly hitting the door of the house next door, the doctor's door. I don't know why the fuck he does that, there's absolutely nobody in that house, but the bastard's been at it for a few hours, he's attracting more infected people and the constant fucking blow is getting tired.

It's getting dark already.

It's been a long, tedious day. I'm writing this on the terrace, where I can see the street, and where I spend most of my time, if not to eat or to go to the bathroom. I have a bottle of rum I've been drinking. I got it this morning, it was almost whole. I don't think I'm going to become an alcoholic, but the truth is that drinking this rum is helping me through all this.

This morning I was falling asleep when I heard shots, they weren't far from here, they rang for a while, and then suddenly they stopped abruptly. They sounded like a gun and I think something more caliber. Maybe it was a shotgun, I don't know, but that at least has revealed something! There are more people alive around here! Or at least they were a few hours ago.

Serafin, my neighbor, is getting more and more anxious. He thinks that staying here is suicide and that the best thing we can do is try to grab a car and make our way to the Blue Harbor Club so we can get on his boat. I've spent the whole morning trying to make him understand that it's crazy. First of all, we don't know if your ship is still moored there or not. In addition, the road will probably be collapsed or blocked, and if we have to leave the car and walk, with thousands of infected people circling all over the place, we will not last a minute. I think I've managed to make him understand, but I don't know for how long.

He's right, though. We must improve our situation here or we will have to move.

The presence of the infected in the street is constant. When the shots rang out I saw hundreds of them passing through the main street, in the direction of where the shots rang out, including a few inside the residence. However, the rest have remained inside the residence and some new ones have arrived over the course of the day. Right now from the terrace I can see about 10 of them walking absently up and down. There are two children, five women and three men.
(One of them is the wretch who knocks on my neighbor's door all the time). They all look the same, pale skin and sprouted veins, clothes torn and stained with blood, others have amputations and even broken bones, there is one of the women who looks like she was run over, has a broken spine and finds it extremely difficult to walk straight.

The interesting thing, no doubt, is one of the men walking around. He's military, he's got the FAES suit. He has a shoulder wound and part of his jaw is missing. I can see your teeth perfectly from here, but the important thing is that you have a bag and a gun.... A GUN!!! No doubt the alcohol and the accumulated stress along with the lack of sleep only make me think about how to get that gun and that backpack. I need them. But the problem is, all I have is a hammer and a bat. Assuming I am able to take care of him, I would still have to take everything away from him and in that time the rest of the infected would reach me. I've been thinking about a plan. It sucks, but it's the best I could come up with.
