A Little More Wow.

Always Glad you Came.jpg

I posted the other day about my week of good fortune. It wasn't over! After I posted about my show, and the sale, and the person in my audience eating lunch underneath this piece, then reaching out to me to say so, something else wonderful happened.

I shared on Twitter, just how lovely it is that people are enjoying my work, and that they're telling me so. Then Jemaine Clement retweeted me.

I am so smiley about it.

Yesterday, after a long day of work, Mikey and I went over to our friend's place for a Fondue gathering. We had a great time, ate delicious food, then decided to carry our hangout into the next day after a sleep so that we could take them to the east end to check out my show at Black Lab Brewery.

After I got up, I noticed another really cool development in my social media following.

This is very exciting to me, because Bif Naked was to me in my twenties what P!nk is to so many young women today. A voice of power. Spaceman, and I love myself today were two of my main go-to songs for karaoke back when I used to go sing. Then I didn't hear any new music from her in ages. I didn't realize that she was busy fighting and surviving cancer. I'm very glad she made it through.

I posted about this feeling last year at some point, when Hozier came to the George St. Diner, and my friend Ash who has had my work up for a very long time told me he liked it.

It's a feeling that's hard for me to put into words, because I appreciate everyone who loves my work. Definitely not just famous people. I certainly don't want to imply that I don't appreciate the love from people who aren't famous.

It's exciting. When someone you've been watching and admiring for ages looks back at you and acknowledges that what you do also has value. I'm not famous. I'm not overwhelmed daily by people who want to be validated... so when I do get attention from people in spotlights, there's something wonderful about it.

The last one I can remember was that Freddie Prinze Jr. gave me a shoutout a couple years ago around Christmas time.

I'm grateful to be able to do what I do. I'm not rich. I may never be rich. I make it work, and I'm pretty happy right now.
