Interesting conversation on art and art therapy under the influence of Cannabis

in #art6 years ago

I read a great article on leafly.com regarding art therapy and Cannabis, which I am sharing here for all of you, my friends. https://www.leafly.com/news/health/why-cannabis-and-art-therapy-are-a-complicated-pairing. I have used Cannabis for the most part as a way to relax, or as we say in the state I was born in (California), chillaxing. I would not say I'm an artist, by definition of most, but I would say I am more of a creator in the broadest sense of the word. I not only know how to paint, but I also create works in the form of words. I can be poetic, I love doing drawing mechanical sketches, and I also love to do what I call Geometric Breakdown which is an art of illusion that draws you into the the picture. I have found that my creativity is unlimited when I am under the influence of Cannabis. The reason the article included in this post was of interest, is that it was written by a doctor who is a therapist, and not only that, but the first part of the article speaks of mandala's that were created without being under the influence of Cannabis and other mandala's that were created under the influence of Cannabis. The results were interesting, however, the results resonated with me from a standpoint that when you are in a "Creative Zone" there are no inhibitions. Your true feelings are come out in the medium you are working in or with. Without that inhibition, or outside the "Creative Zone", we are worried too much about perfection which leads to too much concern about what other people will think or say about our creativity or creation. Most people are too busy thinking about themselves to care about anything else anyway, so why do we worry? It can be attributed to the way we are conditioned as we growing up. What we are exposed to, meaning situations, people we are exposed to, etc. What if we could just create without the pressure of perfection. For those who believe in a higher source, do you really think that as the creator was creating the world we live in, perfection was a concern? I DON'T THINK SO! Perfection in the broadest sense of the definition is a judgement we place on anything. I'm going off on a tangent and I hope you will give me a little leeway. So we would think that a person who has some physical or mental condition that separates them from "the norm" (Normal) or average, like most everybody else, they are not perfect. That is a judgement that you have put on that individual. Just because they don't fit into the box you have determined to be normal or average, does not mean they were not created perfect. So I think I have run that topic into the ground, however, it does make an interesting point about perfection/judgement and it's correlation to art.

I think I have gone on long enough about the topic. I hope you will read the article posted above and consider how our creativity can be influenced by others, if we let it.
