BLOCKTOWN is a community art project powered through your comments and engagement. It’s an experimental game of city-making, a digital Madurodam. With each post, a new layer of buildings will be added to the Town. Your photographs, quotes, stories and feedback are the raw materials that drive construction for each new layer.
Layer 0002-7 of Blocktown
How to Play
Each building and landscape element of BLOCKTOWN will be derived directly from your comments. Photographs, quotes and stories will inspire their own design logic and manifest themselves as 3D characters within the Town. Buildings will be added to the Town with every new post.
Commenting with an image or a story isn’t the only way to play! Your critique is important... Steemit commenters can contribute ideas for future growth, renovation, or even petition for a deconstruction. BLOCKTOWN will be treated as a living, breathing art-project within a digital canvas, always subject to change.
Map for the BLOCKTOWN Neighborhood
QR's are like maps within the cryptocurrency world. It seemed only fitting that the Master Plan for Steemit's BLOCKTOWN be derived from one. With each week - the QR outline will be populated with roadways, parks, buildings and skyscrapers. Here, the address from above links to Steemit.com.
Build your own!
I'm working on a publicly available kit of parts that other 3D artists can download and play with. Other modelers can download / create their own building to add in! If you're interested in modeling, stay tuned! Here's a sneak peak of the Rhino file, below:
An Experiment in Building Community
Through this project - I hope to engage in a broader dialogue with fellow Steemians about their own sense of place and placemaking. These types of game-structured conversations are a fascinating way of learning more about what a person defines as his or her “community.” It’s a way of connecting to one another through the geographies we are deeply tied to and knowledgeable of. In a world of links, likes, upvotes and IP addresses, it’s exciting to find ways of bridging the digital divide and connecting with those on the other side of the screen.
Blockchain is very useful for online games. The faster, the better. It's a very nice idea. Im sure it will attract more investors.
Do you think MineCraft might incorporate blockchain into their online servers?
That's an interesting idea
So, here is the White Tower of Thessaloniki:
Will Blocktown reproduce it identically, or improvise from it? I confess the concept is fascinating but i'm a bit confused how it works. Let's see.
Beautiful tower! So it's a bit of improvisation, using a combination of the "blocks" I have available and also a handful of new shapes needed to mimic this. It's kind of a cartoonified building experiment ;)
So for example, this one I'll model at least a couple new blocks that are rounded with battlement build in. Should be a fun challenge!
Looking forward to see it :)
Would be cool if there was an online interface that added and generated this. Did you ever see the public moon website where you could claim land and draw on the moon? Feels kind of like that.
That's the long term plan man ;)
I want to moonify this like Olafur Eliasson and create a Steem-based game out of it.
Or maybe you could use three.js or globe.js to visualize crypto trading around the world and it would build its own geography and form based on volume. Could be crazy looking
Arc de Triomphe, Paris
Starting small!
Arc de Triomphe! A monumental idea :D
I like what you did there!
Here's a photo I took of the Taipei 101 building on a recent trip to Taiwan. It's night time, not sure how to bot will do with a night shot?
Let's build a skyscraper 10 times taller than the surrounding buildings with ornate design.
This is a super cool idea! I've been brainstorming different way to incorporate games on to the platform in a constructive way and you're light years ahead.
Thanks for the kind feedback and also this excellent image! This will be a fun addition to the town :)
How about a geodesic dome?
or a rad barn
YES! @jodiegolier, fantastic to see you again :D
Every community needs a good barn.
You have been busy. What a cool project. Happy New Year!!!
the QR code turned out to be a 1:10,000 plan view .... :o
FYI : extrude is my favorite command
Haha it's a big scale! Let's see how this QR city plan plays out ;)
A tower would be nice
Took this shot of Tokyo Tower which was modeled after Eiffel tower.
Awesome! Absolutely this is a great idea and a super nice image.
Sweet! :)
Looks like a cool concept. What about giving the model already done in Sketchup? Know..Sketchup sucks :) but this is available in that format :)
It's called the Palacio Salvo. Eclectic Style Based in the Dante's Inferno.
An Icon of the City where I was born, Montevideo, there is a Twin Palace in Buenos Aires.
Nice Game Work ..
I Assume That It Will Be in Online Platform Soon !
Thanks! Absolutely, hoping to open it up and have steemians build their own one day :)
What about a sweet clock tower?
Awesome City Billing is a great way to teach us this beautiful one possessed. It's a great way to teach us a great way of writing your post. I appreciate you and the experience that you work very well, which is really worth appreciating. The main thing to do the job is to get bigger than the one who praises Kauka Can not be
damn it's not going to happen with those shapes, but let's hope for the future.
This is one deep picture
Uh, pardon me @voronoi...
I just kind of went a little crazy in this description, so I turned it into a post. Here's the link:

Looks pretty interesting. I am curious how this is gonna work. I really wanna see what kind of building I am gonna make with my interactions on Steemit. Good luck for this amazing project.
I keep my vote on the Roman Collisseum.
great idea
Oooo la la! I dig the clean style of this!
Steemit is such a huge part of my life now. I shared my house hunting journey with everyone and you guys were there for the highs and the lows. I share my life with you all.
You guys are my peeps. In so many ways I am invested in this community and see myself right in the middle of Blocktown.
Which is completely inspired and brilliant by the way.
Can't wait to see how it evolves.
look like lego. lol!!
What about something from my city?
Interesting tower! Where is your city?

Hi @voronoi, this is one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time. Not just on Steem, neither ;) What a fun idea! I am not sure if comment submissions are still allowed, but I do have a building suggestion. Cheers - Carl
