RE: AskSteem: What are your thoughts on ghostwriters?

in #asksteem4 years ago

In the music industry, ghost writing is basically part and parcel of the top 40 songs but do the listeners care? I very much doubt it. Ghost writers are paid for what they do in that industry, whether it's a one off fee or a % of the royalties they get.

Now, with ghost writing in actual writing content here, again, it depends on the arrangement. Maybe an idea is presented to the ghost writer that the original creator wants to articulate but can't do it because english isn't their first language or some other reason preventing them from doing so.

IF that is the case then I'd say it's fair game and it's at the jurisdiction of the account holder whether they mention it (assuming they have already got a deal with the ghostwriter).

Now, IF they haven't made an offical "off-chain" deal, this is where the beauty of beneficiaries can come in. "I'll write your blogs if you set me as 50% beneficiary", for example. It's all on the blockchain and can act as some sort of "smart contract".

However, if the worse case is that someone is ghostwriting and there's no credit given, proving it is going to be a really difficult case unless you somehow have access to that accounts activity/offline goings on. This is the more shady side of it and for me, it's on the unethical side rather than the plagiarism side but it's up to the discretion of the curator/community.

I'd like to think that an explanation and discussion would come about if a downvote were to be given here but then I'm probably way too optimistic about a lot of things haha.

Anyway, that's this guy's ramble, I have to dash, amazing how this place sucks you in even when you're balls to the wall with offline stuff! To the doghouse!
