Nomad Diaries #1: Let's go to the beach! BALI ♡ (with photos & videos) ♡

in #bali7 years ago (edited)

Steemians! Hi.

Okay, so now that my introduction and my first birthday on steemit are taken care of, let's get to the good stuff. The stuff I primarily live for and write about.

Travel.

For my first Nomad Diaries episode, let me take you on a little beach trip from not too long ago: Bali.

Why did I go there? Obviously because it's all the rave for its natural beauty and cultural experience (if you explore parts of Bali beyond Seminyak, Kuta, et al). But I actually went incredibly spontaneously.

My digital nomad story had brought me to Asia for the first time in my life this spring (which was also the experience that really confirmed my desire to remain location independent and travel while I hustle). And this first time in Asia began in Thailand, but unfortunately I didn't have a Thai visa. So after three weeks in Bangkok, I needed to figure something out, because the tourist visa I had stamped in my passport was only valid for 30 days. I kept seeing beautiful photos of my friend who was in Canggu, Bali at the time, so I just booked a flight to Indonesia on a whim.

Since I had spent the whole month in Bangkok, Bali was my very first time seeing the ocean on Asian soil!
I made a friend at my hotel who was originally from Indonesia and she took me with her on her rented scooter. I still haven't tried riding a scooter (I don't even know how to drive a car), so I was quite stuck at my hotel. I was incredibly grateful to finally make it to the beach after 5 days of being on Bali and over one month in Asia! Planning transportation in advance is definitely a lesson learned for my next time on Bali.

The beach I am taking you to today is called Echo beach. Echo beach - And Canggu in general - have a reputation of becoming the "Brooklyn of Bali". Canggu is still on the more affordable side of Bali tourism and it's very laid back. Recently there has been an influx of coworking spaces opening and there have been swarms of digital nomads like me.

We went to Echo beach late afternoon to begin with some fresh coconuts at the pool and views.

We headed down to the water just in time for sunset! Did I mention that Echo beach is BLACK SAND

If you walk a little south, away from all the restaurants and bars (past the momument), you'll have tons of space to goof around

And do a not-so-sexy baywatch scene

Some cute seashells and rocks can be found here too, if you're into that

Spectacular sunset and many opportunities to greet a doggo

Classic Bali corn on the cob for dinner (approx. 50 cents) while browsing the nearby stores

And lastly what might be my favorite part... The sand sparkles in the dark!

Thank you!! :) I think I'm hooked! hehe

Haha good! Im following you to stay updated!

thank you! Same to you!

Cool journey! Not sure how far you are from the Hard Rock Hotel as that's where I stayed when there last. Unfortunately, the beach nearby didn't make for a good time as there were tons of people trying to sell things.

Aw bummer :( Do you remember what part of Bali it was in? Kuta? Seminyak? I know those are filled with "selling stuff"

It was Kuta but the pool at the Hard Rock was amazing as they had a slide that went up several floors and it was a rather huge pool. Anytime I went to the pool there were hundreds of people like a big party.

Hahaha. I don't like crowds but I DEFINITELY love slides! :D

Here's an exceptionally mediocre video of the hotel but you can somewhat get the picture of the place as they certainly hadn't done any major renovations since I was there. The photos don't do it justice as I know that slide was really really high up.
