Review: Veltins Pilsner Beer

in #beer7 years ago

My friends and I were walking around in the downtown area of our city because we had been gaming for a few hours. Since we had gone to an expensive restaurant someone suggested a bar across from a park so that we could smoke in the park. I suggested that we pick up some 6 packs and just sit in a large park to smoke and drink.

Unfortunately, the only grocery store in the area was Whole Foods, which is very expensive. After buying a surprising 4 pack (not 6 pack) of cider, because some people preferred cider, I got Veltins tallboys on sale because our budget was stretched.

My typical favorites like Natty Daddy, Natty Ice and Bud Ice were not available at this store, which sucked. I had not heard of this brand before but it was in the same price range and I know that "pilsner" is a lighter beer type. I prefer light beer as opposed to something like Guinness ale for example.

As I had suspected, Veltins tasted inoffensive and mild although it was not as smooth as the usual lite ice beers I enjoy. It tasted like Heineken or Stella, which are also European brews (Veltins is German). However because we were sitting in the park, I absorbed a lot of marijuana smoke that was wafting around me so one semi tallboy (16 oz - I usually drink 24 oz) got me stoned.

So if you're in Europe or a bougie area and can't find your favorite American brews, I would definitely recommend Veltins. It was also very filling - its calorie content is very high - so I didn't feel like I wanted to eat afterward at all. If I had known how fatty it was I would've sought out a Michelob Ultra or something. It's surprisingly fat for a lighter beer (239 calories).
