I really liked Amy in the beginning but soon she started to become normal and I wasn't so fond of that change.

Sheldon and his family are great comedy material. I remember one episode where Sheldon's brother visited Sheldon. His mother has been over several times and his sister at least once.

Jim Parsons is actually from Texas. His accent is what I imagine most people in the big cities of Texas to have.
Sheldon's mother is played by Laurie Metcalf who grew up in Illinois. Sheldon's mother's accent in the show sounds a bit overdone. Her character and her rendition of her is very funny but I wonder how an actress actually from rural Texas would've sounded like. Nailing an accent that is not yours (particularly in a foreign language) is incredibly difficult.
