#3.1 - The revolution that never came... Or did it? [Pt. II]

in #bitcoin6 years ago (edited)

Sitting on the sidelines, waiting for your neighbours to knock on your door, pitchfork in hand, saying "Come on, we're done with this ****!" - while slowly resigning to the fact, that it probably won't happen - can be an exhausting mental challenge in the long run.

And a lot of people have put my thoughts into better words, than I could ever hope to, and a few years ago, I came across this quote, which really hit home for me:

Civil disobedience becomes a sacred duty when the state has become lawless or corrupt. And a citizen who barters with such a state shares in its corruption and lawlessness.
              - Mahatma Gandhi

Now - the first part of that quote is quite inspirational, and almost self-evident to some.

The second part of the quote, made me realize something about myself and probably applies to many others.

The way of thinking, that I had come to adopt - the mentality of:
"Oh well, nothing will change anyway, so I'll just set myself up as comfortably as possible, within the parameters set forth..." wasn't just resignation, it was actually enabling the system to maintain the status quo. Something I thought I would never have found myself doing.

And yet there I was... doing exactly that... and I still am, to a certain extent - I'm not trying to make myself better than I am - but knowing the error of your behaviour, is the first necessary step to change it.

And that's when I started thinking about Bitcoin as being something completely different...
Maybe Bitcoin was "the neighbour"... We just didn't hear him knocking in the beginning - and he wasn't carrying a pitchfork - he had a whitepaper with him instead.

Today it's basically self-evident, for the ones that are in the know, that some kind of revolution has already begun.
Be it a revolution in tech, in finance, in society or in any other context - it IS a revolution of some kind. The question is what it will change, how much it will change, and in exactly what way.

And the impact of the revolution seems to be growing exponentially - perhaps a little too quick - or maybe not fast enough. But at this point it is definitely happening! And what will come of it, will be up to everyone who chooses to get involved - no matter how they join, and for what reason. At that point they will be part of it, whether they realize it or not.

We can let the opportunity pass us by, and lay it by the wayside - or we can make use of everything the technology has to offer, and see what we can build and improve with it.

Brevity is the soul of wit - and longevity the soul of the contemplative!

it's very true--the line between capitulation and survival is blurry. Being a total renegade will isolate you and help identify yourself. We're literally living in a totalitarian state with the ability to spy on your dailies. So you need to be somewhat sensitive that most people will not/cannot escape the matrix. I don't believe they're capitulating. They just don't have the means to do anything about it.

I had used a fb account several years ago to try to "wake people up" to the realities of the world, particularly for those of us in the US. Most of my closest friends simply assumed I lost my mind.

You're probably right about the cryptosphere as being some piece of a revolution. I think that's really the hype--anti-establishment. But people are sheeple. It's going to require brave actors to martyr themselves in order to motivate people for a day or two.

Hopefully the sheep and dinosaurs have a large overlap, and soon enough we will be more informed youth in power - there HAS to be hope... :)

Revolution all round is taking over pretty fast than I imagined but what's the significance of any sort of revolution? What can it probably change? That question was answered long before it started
Am part of this revolution and am glad
Thanks, nice one @cryptos17

You have a fair point, well made... I guess the question is more; how long will the revolution last before we see the change we hope for...
