Remember when Bitcoin was cheap? When I wrote this, the price was probably about $400. A few months earlier than that, when I first made a BTC purchase, it was about $200. Wow... If I only knew then what I know now.

I wrote this post on a blog that I was running in 2013 called Coin Journey, a few months after I first discovered Bitcoin. That blog is long gone but I feel like it's appropriate to move this post here.

Let me know if you also caught the Bitcoin bug back around 2013. It was some fun times.

Mid October I started what was to become a mild (possibly more severe) obsession with Bitcoin. It was a simple Hacker News post - which I have no recollection the content of. But it awoke a desire in me to go out and get some Bitcoin.

I suddenly found myself in front of a sketchy Tim Hortons, participating in a somewhat awkward, somewhat suspicious hand to hand transaction. Except nothing illegal about it. I handed the kid a $50 and he went on his iPhone to release 0.25 BTC from escrow which magically made its way to my LocalBitcoin account. Minutes after the transaction, back in my car, wife and toddler in tow, I had a crazy grin. Excited!! My wife just shook her head...

$50 for 0.25 BTC. Now that's crazy. Less crazy than the kids with thousands of these things - all mined or purchased at pennies a piece. Good grief. Palm to face.

Since that day in October, I have been accumulating. Nothing to raise a stink about. Just trying to build on that initial 0.25 BTC investment. But I have become ever more obsessed with the Bitcoin. Lured by the increase in price. Entrapped by its technical and economic implications.

And I didn't know what I didn't know. In the last month and a half, I've learned loads about macroeconomics and crypto currency. But rather than simply reading and reading and learning and watching the bitcoinwisdom charts, I've decided to also begin a blog to write about what is surely to be a historic moment in time.

Maybe I've just had one too many sips of the koolaid. Wouldn't be the first time. But I truly believe that what has become of Bitcoin to this point is just the tip of the iceberg.

I will leave this initial post at that.
