Social Nightmare 2020

in #blog4 years ago

I'm getting really sick of Facebook. I've known for years how bad it was, but stayed because of the people. After watching some recent documentaries I've seen how truly terrible social media has become, and every day it just gets worse. This platform on the other hand has been extremely positive and I am resolving to spend less time on web 2 and even more time building web 3.

I've been building websites since middle school when I used places like fortunecity and geocities. The old web was a much different place, there was no Google to search, and search engines rarely provided accurate results. It was a lot of browsing and discovering, and there wasn't much e-commerce at the time. If a website was selling something you had to contact them and do credit card over the phone.

One thing I really think is still underused is that few Hive users are offering any products or services for Hive Dollars. I hope this will change as more usrrs decide to treat this seriously. If we had hive when we were building the web pages of 1997, things would be much different. When you think about it we are still missing the simple payments method the internet promised us.

A few things about this, there is a hive campaign on Twitter to attract new users. I suggest sharing hive stories you upvote on the socials with an extra sign up link. I might just end up just posting even more often on here, and sharing these stories to my feed. I think we are all sort of feeling the same way, social media is seriously effecting us.

I saw a trailer today for another netflix show taking about the dark side of social media. I hope it helps people realize that it's not good for them. While I want to unplug completely I feel like there is still some value in the social networks, but only if we use it intentionally and not let it use us. We are influenced every day by all these algorithms.

Sort:

I have not installed Facebook on my new phone yet 🙂 I feel warm and gooey inside knowing big brother isn't watching.

Starting October 1st 2020 I will attempt to post on Hive exclusively and only share links to FB. Other than groups and special circumstances. Fb Exodus when? How long will people continue to play Russian roulette with a gun pointed at their brains?

That would be a good feeling. I haven't had the ability to delete FB off a single phone I've owned since my Samsung Galaxy S3. The only option was to disable it and it still updated with the updates disabled, last time I checked.

Mind you, Android or Apple are just as guilty of data theft, but at least it's one hand out of the cookie jar.

Lol when cannabis was illegal I taught these hippies how to root your android with a custom ROM, remove all Google maps and play store apps. They went around the city telling everyone the cops had all their maps and location data.

I may have let them go off on a tangent assuming there is no warrant to access the data from Google, but eh it was for their own benefit learning about privacy.

If you can delete the playstore entirely, thats where the "is this app updated" checks come from.

Totally fair. I haven't seen any firmware for Android that doesn't make a smart phone into a baked potato that makes phone calls yet. They're making flip phones again, so that's almost a viable option again lol

Lol I should make vlog about finding the cheapest smart phone in Canada. Just demand all warehouse inventory of pre 3G and pre mobile data cell.

Awesome thoughts. You make dinner great points about social media having negative effects on the people. With people being so reactionary by nature, it's incredulous to give social media platforms the ability to actively manipulate mass populations. Even when we're aware that it's happening, it still leaves impressions on us, making it more difficult to make decisions that are not influenced by impressioned biases.

With the new policies rolling out on FB, I can see some pretty grotesque shifts coming. There may well be a shift coming due to the malevolent nature of the platform and the desire to censor or manipulate what people see for their gain.
