Normally, When we say ' Star ' we would imagine something that is really Bright, Hot, Big so on and so forth. But there is a kind of star, we call it the Neutron Star. This star is really hot far hotter than our sun, its temperature is about 10^12 kelvin or 1.8×10^11 °F ( Young ) but somehow compare to our sun it's not so bright because of its size.

Neutron Star is relativity small compare to our sun but still if Neutron Star was as big as our sun it would outshine our sun by alot. Talking about size, Neutron Star has a radius of only 10 km ( 6.2 mi ) despite its small size it's ridiculously massive. It's has a mass between 1.5 - 3 of our sun making it the densest object in the universe. If we scrape a teaspoon of neutron star it would be as big as a mountain.
Initially, Neutron Star used to be a large star, as it became older it also became bigger in size. As it reached the end phase of stellar evolution it exploded as we call it the Supernova. After the outer layers of star had been ripped off into space only the core remained but since it no longer produced the Nuclear Fusion the balance between force of gravity and nuclear fusion had lost and so the star collapsed upon itself turning into the Neutron Star. In case if the mass of originally star is over 30 the mass of our star there is a chance that it might collapsed and turned into Black Hole.

Hey there :) Nice post about Neutron Stars, they are fantastic objects. You know that by dropping a marshmallow from a few meters onto a NS has the potential energy equivalent to nuclear explosions. This always fascinated me.
