Jesus once again speaks to us directly without a filter, nor does he soften his words to gain followers. At no point does He say, "If you want to follow me, I promise you'll be comfortable and successful." Jesus says something completely radical.
In a nutshell, He says the following: take up your cross, deny yourself, and follow in my footsteps. Denying oneself doesn't mean ceasing to be who we are; it means renouncing ego or self-love in place of love for God, letting go of comfort and control over all things. When He speaks of the cross, He isn't referring to an accessory. Let's remember that in Jesus Christ's time, the cross meant death. This means letting our old selves die, letting go of all our sinful tendencies, in order to live a resurrected life in the image and likeness of Jesus.
Following Jesus isn't easy; it may be the most complicated thing in life, but it's worth the effort. Along the way, we may lose many things, but in Christ, we gain what gives us life, and it's something that cannot be earned. We're talking about an eternal purpose.
All of this can be summed up as forgiving when we really don't want to forgive, loving when it hurts, or when it hurts. We suffer for the harm they have caused us. Carrying the cross also means speaking the truth, even when it is very difficult, and also letting go of what we know somehow distances us from Jesus Christ. This is a call to victory.
Then Jesus said to his disciples: If anyone wants to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

Jesús una vez más nos habla directamente sin filtro y tampoco suaviza sus palabras para ganar seguidores. Él en ningún momento dice: "si quieres seguirme te prometo que vas a estar con comodidad y mucho éxito. Jesús dice algo totalmente radical.
En pocas palabras dice lo siguiente: carga tu cruz, negativo mismo y seguir mis pasos. Negarse uno mismo no significa dejar de ser quienes somos, significa renunciar al ego o al amor propio en lugar del amor a Dios, dejar de lado la comodidad y el control de todas las cosas, cuando habla de la cruz no se refiere a un accesorio, recordemos que en el tiempo de Jesucristo en la cruz significaba muerte, esto quiere decir que dejemos morir a nuestro viejo yo, a todas las tendencias pecaminosas que tenemos para vivir una vida resucitada a la imagen y semejanza de Jesús.
Seguir a Jesús no es algo sencillo, quizás sea lo más complicado que existe en esta vida pero si vale el esfuerzo. En el camino quizás podemos perder muchas cosas pero en Cristo ganamos lo que nos da vida y es algo que no se puede ganar, estamos hablando de un propósito eterno.
Todo esto podemos resumirlo en perdonar cuando realmente no queremos perdonar, amar cuando nos duele o cuando sufrimos por el daño que nos han causado, cargar la cruz también es decir la verdad aún cuando esta cuesta muchísimo y también soltar lo que sabemos que de alguna manera nos aleja de Jesucristo. Esto es un llamado a la victoria.
Entonces Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz y sígame
