Geography, more than a science

For many people, geography is the science that is responsible for studying the landscape, representing maps of the areas and studying the climate, however. From my conception as a scholar and professor of Geography, I could say that many people handle a misconception of what this science aims at.

It is true that Geography since its inception began as a purely descriptive science that uniquely and exclusively detailed with little or great precision the natural elements of the landscape that humans from their cognitive level could perceive as mountains, valleys, plains, coasts, rivers, seas among others. Nevertheless; with the passage of time, the way human beings visualized the space perceived and lived began to change, this process is known as "the evolution of geography through time".

Time in which, the descriptions became much more detailed, but beyond that, Geography began to be divided into 2 fundamental branches that would mark the emergence of what is nowadays. This was divided into Physical Geography and Human Geography, since it was taken into account that the natural physical space can not be studied in a way that is isolated from human beings, but instead of them, the relations of how they were said should be established. elements will contribute to the development of societies.

For this reason, Geography began, to tempt their investigations in auxiliary sciences that would allow him to obtain answers to the questions that were posed, it was then as in this way, mathematics, statistics, biology, zoology, Geology, Geomorphology and many other specific sciences began to provide specific contributions to this mother science, until it became what we know today, a science that not only describes, but studies, analyzes, compares problems of a natural and social nature in order to find a rational solution to problems raised.

Study the human being as the main modeling species of the natural landscape
Contributes to the scientific development of the planet
Study the impact of social and natural phenomena for human beings and for Planet Earth
Gives value and sense of belonging to children, youth and adults who see a solution to a large number of problems
Provides spontaneous solution alternatives based on what is known.
