Most amazing FESTIVAL and TRADITION to see - Seville, Spain

SEVILLE ❤️

The Seville Spring Fair originally called La Feria De Sevilla, or La Feria de Abril, is the most colourful event in the city. Not actually just that, Feria is a serious dancing, eating, drinking and socialising tradition and one the main highlights of the cultural agenda for the city and for the entire county in general.

It is probably not possible for me to describe my excitement with the words here about this event as the best thing I have ever experienced in my life so far, but I'll do my best.

It is unlike any "fair" you've ever been to before for sure. This wonderful celebration of music, food, life and best Andalusian art-flamenco is starting each year after Easter so called Semana Santa and it lasts for one week. One week of FIESTA 💃 Since the time of Easter is not fixed, the dates of Feria are not fixed either, but it's always in between the first week of April and the beginning of May. This year it starts on the 14th of April. The interesting thing is that during these days the core of the city is almost empty, which is pretty amazing to see because usually you cannot move freely there 🙂 La Feria takes its stand in the area called Los Remedios, located 20 minutes by walk from the city centre.

I was placed there before I knew anything about this cultural spectacle, as the universe knew where to place me. Call it coincidence... or call it fate... 🙂

Sevillanas in their typical flamenco dresses, casetas and typical colourful street decoration

So, here are three things you need to know before going and three things that will leave you absolutely speechless

Things that have to be known:

  • LAS CASETAS Colourful canvas tent pavilions, the second home of the city's inhabitants during these days. Most of the casetas are private and without invitation is not possible to enter, but people from there are really nice and open and they will open their doors for you to show you the true feeling of Feria 😍There are also public ones "casetas municipal" that you can attend free. People are basically gathering there to have fun, (drinking, eating, dancing, repeating ) from the very early morning until the early hours of the next morning. Party A TOPE! 🥂

  • REBUJITO Silent killer and the king of the party. Really tasty, soft drink that needs to be drunk as a shoot. Served in a jar with ice and made of Manzanilla ( white wine ) and Sprite. According to my own experience... my advise is: TAKE CARE! Do not let this sweet taste distract you or you will be just like me, the "best" SEVILLANA performer there... drunk performer... 😅🙈

  • SONG "Sevilla Tiene Un Color Especial" You need to know at least one song and this is the most authentic one written about Seville. It can be heard from every corner of the fairground area and it's really catchy.

Typical men outfit of the farm-worker

Things that will leave you speechless:

  • TYPICAL ANDALUSIAN DRESS Throughout the fair women wear their most spectacular gowns, coloured flamenco gypsy dresses and men wear the typical outfit of the farm-worker. Putting on a flamenco dress is a stylistic and personal challenge there. You can enjoy wonderful scene and the unforgettable sensation just by watching them, but I wanted so badly to be one of them and thanks to my friend who borrowed me one, I succeeded in my intentions. I became Sevillana even for a one day! Can't describe the feeling, it was like a fairy tale 😊

  • SEVILLANAS Typical local version of flamenco dancing. It is the most popular and best-known folk dance in Spain. Not easy to learn, but so elegant and incredible to see. People are dancing all day and all night long. Even though people mostly dance in their casetas it's not uncommon to find them out into the streets also. The street is their endless stage 💃

  • ATMOSPHERE By day the fair is filled with horses and carriage parades that will take you to the past; to the romantic, old fashioned spectre of life. Lot of colours, music, dance, food, drinks, good will and friendly personality of each attender are making memorable and speechless atmosphere.

Living the Feria de Abril in Seville is a unique experience that you really have to try at least once in your life.

It is probably not possible for me to describe my excitement with the words here about this event as the best thing I have ever experienced in my life so far, but I hope I did my best.

I enjoyed so much that I'm eagerly awaiting the second one ❤️ If you also have been there I would be very happy to hear your opinion and your experience 😊

Woohoo! Even if Granada holds a grudge against Sevilla, we have to recognize Semana Santa there is spectacular and full of colour and your post definitely paints it perfectly well in all its details :-) Great dress, it suits you! Did you buy or rent it?

woooou I didn't know that Seville and Granada aren't good friends :D Thank you :) My friend borrowed me that one because they are way expensive, way too much and soooo heavy so I couldn't bring it with me to Croatia in a suitcase :D

Oooh what a shame, it suits you!

One day I'll buy one 😊 thank you! 😊
