Is Royalty really dead?

in #blog3 years ago

It should come as no surprise that millions upon millions of people are still mesmerized by Royal families.

The monarchs of old were merely replaced by 'elected representatives' in government, after all. We're still ruled, but the power of the ruling class has been somewhat diffused into different branches of government.

We're no longer ruled by ONE, but rather an oligarchical FEW.

People want to be ruled — deep down — because they believe 'authority' absolves them of personal responsibility.

It doesn't.

If government disbanded tomorrow only to be replaced by a monarchy, most Brits would embrace the idea. The concept of authority, and even Royalty, is still deeply ingrained in the collective psyche of the British people.

Sort:

Well, Britain has a queen, and they are, in fact, a monarchy, so if absolutism were to return it wouldn't be such a surprise. It would be if something like that happened in the United States, for example. But then we should ask ourselves, is there really such a big difference between absolutism and the erroneously called modern democracies (oligarchies in fact)? The separation of powers is actually a sham, the State has absolute power, and even greater now than it had two hundred years ago. The difference is not whether the State has absolute power or not, but whether we have one or many kings. But at this point I think the liberal propaganda has made everyone believe that having many kings is better (or in some way different) than having just one. After all most people still believe that Louis XIV said "I am the state" or that Marie Antoinette said something like "let them eat cakes", things they most likely never said, and which only make sense if you look at them from a liberal point of view.

As things stand, if this were to happen, perhaps nothing much would change. But, what do I know?
