In between trying to fix my ailing phone and feeling completely and utterly bored from my recent lack of entertainment, I read.
It is beautiful reading a lovely book for the first time. It is even more beautiful reading it the again after over 6 years and yet still getting goose bumps all over as in the case of "A Knight in shinning armor' by Jude Deveraux."
The goose bumps as are not just because the book tells a tale of love tht defiled time or because it tells a tale of honor and strength of character but because the book from beginning to the end did not lack in it's ability to hold one's attention and meaning.
And to think that after 6 years I find out the book has its center theme as Alcoholism!!
Not once had the word alcoholism been mentioned nor had any character been depicted as a drunk. Although Nicholas was said to have had too much one time, he was fully functional and with sense.
I'd written about alcoholism without ever mentioning the word.
-Deveraux
But then, Deveraux wasn't referring to alcoholism as in the act of drinking excessively. Rather, he referred to alcoholism as a personality trait.
But what I was reading—and forgive my paraphrasing, as I’m not an expert on this—said that there was such a thing as an “alcoholic personality.” In fact, a person didn’t even have to drink to have this personality, and in that case, he was called a “dry drunk"
-Deveraux
With the center theme in mind, reflecting on book now I realise the amount of justice done by Deveraux in the way he was able to conjure Dougless, a perfect character through whose weakness we see strength and a final break from her dry drunk boyfriend.
But amazingly enough, her boyfriend is at the bottom of your thought while you read for you'll be more interested, for sure, in Nicholas Stafford who was beheaded in 1564 for treason but somehow finds himself falling for Dougless in 1988.
I salute this book for it tells of a love across time and space, a strength of will and character, of honor, the 'not-so-true-ness' of history books, second chances and drops delivers your lap a paid ticket through history.
So if you are into time travel and dashing British lords, and very touching moments. This book is for you. Although I must warn you, most people end up reading it more than once.
I pray thee to say no more! For I reason that i might begin to write too highly of this book.
Download/buy it and enjoy!
I guarantee you will.
