Humans are the scariest part of "IT" novel by Stephan King

IT by Stephan King

Let me just say that IT was an incredibly amazing book to read. Personally, I would recommend it to anyone to read. The thing about the IT movie is that they skip a lot of interesting details and stories which the book covers, so even if you watch the movie, the book is still worth a read.

You probably know this already but "IT" is a horror story. Pennywise is the main villain of the story and there are a lot of creepy and scary scenes involving “it”. However, what I found to be the scariest moments in the story are with the evil humans. Specifically, Tom Rogan and Patrick Hockstetter.

The moment where Tom beats the crap out of Beverly’s friend was very scary. The thing about a human doing this and not a celestial clown just made me uncomfortable, since it is something that comes out of fantasy and is much more relatable. It makes you think this rage is completely real and something humans are capable of.

I thought that was the scariest scene in the book, until I read the chapter on Patrick Hockstetter. I thought his chapter was very, whats the word? Spine-chilling? I thought he was the evilest thing in the story. And he was just a bully, not even the main bully, which made it even creepier. His story does end like any other victim but, this is a character who is as evil as anyone can be. The scene with his younger brother was easily the hardest part to read in the story. And then there also is the refrigerator bit...

Maybe I am the only one who feels this way? But did anyone else find the scariest bits in IT to be the evilness present in the human characters?

I think all effective horror - and all great monsters - are just reflections of the worst in human nature. It's when you start to think, "somebody could actually do this. Maybe I could actually do this..." that the spine really tingles.

Yes, couldn't have put it better myself
