Introduction
Cryptocurrencies and blockchain projects offer a unique way to distribute funds for projects. Many startups and social media platforms are finding advantages in adopting blockchain protocols into their operations. Facebook has announced the launch of its Libra projects and social media outlets Reddit and Twitter adopting BAT (Basic Attention Token) as a feature for tipping and potential fundraising. What follows is an introduction to BAT and a short guide to getting started using BAT, it’s browser, and it’s KYC (Know Your Customer) enabled Uphold wallet.
Overview
The Basic Attention Token is a browser enabled cryptocurrency issued by the Brave Browser, a project developed with the intention of creating a create a peer to peer payment system that directly links content creators and their consumers. The effect of this is a diminished need for advertisements. Users have the option to opt into viewing ads, should they choose, and can earn BAT for their attention. Users of BAT can then pass on their BAT on to content creators in the forms of tips. Alternatively, users can access a cryptocurrency exchange and buy or sell BAT using fiat currency.
Setting up a Brave Creator Account
Download and install Brave Browser
Enter the Content Creators portal from the Brave home page
Follow the email prompts and create a Creators account
Log-in to your newly created Creators portal and add your preferred channel or social media outlet
Note that you will have to connect an Uphold Wallet to withdraw your funds
Select a channel to add, queuing your login credentials
Verify your Uphold Wallet and enjoy!
