There’s a common misconception by many that if you’re going to make a video for social media, you need to be in it. For those of us who have a face for radio or have no aspirations of boldly putting ourselves out there like that, it’s a stumbling block that means we simply don’t get it done – unless you’ve got the budget for an actor.

The good news is that you don’t really need to be on camera. In fact, most social media users now watch their videos on mute and read subtitles as they follow the events unfolding. Here’s an experiment – go check out your FB feed now and see what works.

You’ll immediately notice that many videos use stock footage, clip art, and sometimes real people. What does this mean for you? If you’re selling products, then you can let the products shine! All you really need is a good story hat drags people in to watch the whole thing and then take the action you want them to at the end.

Primarily though, you’ll be looking to deliver content that’s useful – and that doesn’t always mean you being in them. If you’re an actor or personality who relies on you as a fundamental part of your business, then sure – you should probably be in there.

But if you’re affiliate marketing, you don’t need to be in them. If you run an eShop, you don’t need to be in them. If you have a service that fixs a huge problem, you’re not what people care about – fixing their problem is, and demonstrating how should be the focus of your video.

Bottom line: don’t get this excuse stop you from video marketing on social media!
