Kodak has just announced that they are about to launch a new cryptocurrency coin (and related photography service) called KodakCoin.
The idea is to create a secure way for photographers to sell and manage their digital photos (using blockchain technology) and other related intellectual property.
According to Kodak:
*"Utilizing blockchain technology, the KODAKOne platform will create an encrypted, digital ledger of rights ownership for photographers to register both new and archive work that they can then license within the platform.
With KODAKCoin, participating photographers are invited to take part in a new economy for photography, receive payment for licensing their work immediately upon sale, and for both professional and amateur photographers, sell their work confidently on a secure blockchain platform.
KODAKOne platform provides continual web crawling in order to monitor and protect the IP of the images registered in the KODAKOne system.
Where unlicensed usage of images is detected, the KODAKOne platform can efficiently manage the post-licensing process in order to reward photographers."*
The KodakCoin ICO launches on January 31, 2018 and will be open to accredited investors from the U.S., Canada and other select countries.
Great writeup — I’ll be buying into the ico on Jan 31st.
I feel a lot of these companies (aging dinosaurs standing on their last leg) will start to aggressively jumping on the blockchain/ICO bandwagon in the coming months/years to help ensure their survival. One the plus side this will add legitimacy to the crypto space but on the other side of the coin a lot of these companies have outlived their usefulness and should probably be left to perish (some more then others, especially the ones that mistreated the publics trust/privacy/... over the years to get where they are).
That being said what Kodak is planning to do does make sense for a blockchain project, and they do fit into the niche for the most part so it will probably do quite well in the long run if I had to guess.
I personally won't be investing in it as I would rather invest is companies that are new/upcoming instead of putting in back into some of the same major corporations/banks that have ruled over us for decades already.
Great points! I agree.
Probably would be a good Idea to sink $50, or so into the coin when it becomes available to the public. Never know what it will go up to, and still cheaper than playing the lottery.
Great call to the cryptosystem!
Happy steeming
See how Kodak stock skyrocketed after the announcement:

Amazing!
There is a little more about their vision on their new web page:

The representative of KodakCoin suspects Hong Kong based crypto exchange Lbank.io for creating a fake ICO section page of KodakCoin website.
