Buddha Relief In The Temple Bota-sa In Seoul, Korea

in #busy6 years ago

Several days ago there was a chance to look around the temples in Seoul.
Even though I have lived in Seoul for more than 40 years, I don’t know very well about the appearance of my city.
I had tried to travel far away, but I didn’t try to look around my near place.
I think you may have same experience like me.

He is foreigner who realize me that there are so many amazing place in Seoul.
I could look around several temples in Seoul with his guide.

He was a specialist in Buddhism. He had travelled so many countries to find out himself.
Naturally he had travelled India and Nepal to search for the roots of Buddhism.

We had visited several temples in Seoul with his explanation.
Among them, I’d like to introduce you 2 reliefs of Buddha. All of them were listed in the National treasury.

The first relief was located near the Korea University in northern part of Seoul city.
It was Bota-sa where I’d like to introduce you in this posting.

Actually I had studied in the Korea University for more than 15 years, and I had had a close relationship with the guys studying together until now
But I didn’t notice there was a National treasury at such a close distance from the University.

It was said that this temple was built in at the age of Goryeo dynasty.
The temple Bota-sa was small, calm and peaceful like an oasis in the city.

Best of all was it looked like a hidden temple.
You can take a rest in the temple when you are tired and exhausted.

The relief seemed to have been carved in more than 700 thousand years ago.
There was no record on the creation of this relief, but according to the scholars this kind of carving style was popular at the late time of Goryeo Kingdom and the early Choson dynasty.

There were a few people to see the relief when we dropped by.
It’s size was about 4M high.

The most impressive thing was it’s face was very well balanced.
It meat the relief looked handsome.

It’s face was not similar to the ordinary relief Buddha comparing to other Buddha statue
Below was the Buddha statue in Goryeo Kingdom I photoed in Daejeon city.

It was well carved and it’s slight smile made me comfortable.

After finishing excursion, I heard there was another national treasury in that temple.
It is said that the gold painted bronze sitting Buddha statue.
I was sorry, but it's not bad. I have another reason to come by Bota-sa once again.

Pray for me i am a bit ill and i will share those picture soon

It sounds like a temple that you can sit and get "resteemed" :-)

The Buddha statue is very nice and I love all the colors used there. There is nothing better than meditating in a hidden ancient temple peacefully. Sometimes we live in a place for years, but we dont take the time to look around, because we think we know everything already. This was worth the discovery :)

@slowwalker have you been to Lumbini in Nepal? When I was there on mission (national tourism planning) , it had extraordinary energy. So much so, I will never forget. I must also thank you for your support. I really appreciate what you have done.

Maybe you know Seoul city more than me haha
Some temples are located really close
So I usually visit there even I am not buddhist.
Reaally calm and peaceful

Awesome temple, and lovely colorful lamps in the midst of the wondrous nature. <3

Hoping to visit Korea someday soon! And see you there too @slowwalker. :) Have a blessed day ahead! :)

So beautiful place dear friend

Thank you

The statue is beautiful! @slowwalker Who will have made them? There are so many surprisingly inexplicable things that are in the world but nobody knows how they were created? or as? because a long time ago there were not the tools that exist now!

craftsman's capability seemed beyond our imagination

Yes, @slowwalker I had imagination and a great talent, to have created a great statue and with the proportions correstas and obtain that result! but unfortunately it remains a great mystery and like that statue so many things.

Korea is so beautiful. Traveling to Korea is my dream.

This is inspiring. Been there 2 years ago and loved it, amazing mix of ancient and modern culture and architecture. The Jogyesa temple felt so peaceful...and right in the middle of the city center, surrounded by buildings - unexpected :)

Thank you so much

The journey is incredible sir @Slowwarker ..
as far as I know the roots of Buddhist people in India if not mistaken.
and in seoul very beautiful and comfortable life although i have never gone at least i have read books about seoul

안녕하세요 @slowwalker. I love your pictures of the beautiful land of the morning calm. It makes me quite nostalgic and it makes me miss the Korean people. I lived in Korea for a few years as an English teacher - it was such a privilege to experience the Korean culture and to learn about your history. I have never met such a resilient people-group and the way the Koreans stand together for a common goal is quite impressive. I've had exposure to so many cultures and different people-groups, but the Koreans have a special place in my heart.

Keep up the good work of sharing your beautiful heritage and country with us here on steemit. I'm following you and reading and upvoting your posts, as it reminds me of such a beautiful chapter in my life. Thank you @slowwalker.

Thank you so much for your comment
