Steemians Can Now Get Paid On Posts....Forever

in #busy6 years ago

One of the biggest issues with the Steem blockchain was the 7 day payment window. This limited content to being upvoted only during that period. Many content creators, especially those who feel their content is timeless, such as educational materials, cited this as a major turn-off regarding Steem. It is difficult to argue this point.

Many wanted this changed at the base layer. I saw a number of discussions pointing to the fact that Steemit needs to change the code on this. While this did not seem to gain any traction, it is a worthy conversation.

Or should I say it was.

The solution is now here. One of the things I noticed about this blockchain, if there is a problem, the knee-jerk reaction is to have Steemit change it. What often ends up happening is a innovative team gets together and solves it.

Enter Steem Bounty. They stepped up to the plate and created an interface that enables people to get paid on their posts eternally. As long as the Internet remains, or even mesh networks, a post is eligible for upvotes.

They put up a post about Steem Forever. This is the latest innovation to the Steem blockchain that solves a major challenge and really makes the entire ecosystem more valuable.

The concept is very simple.

One takes the url of the post and replaces steemit or busy with steem-bounty. Or, to make it easier, there is a nice conversion bar on their site.

To try it out, here is an older post of mine that is passed the 7 day window.

After running it through the link converter, this is what it looks like.

We now see the ability to upvote posts and comments. I did not try it but it appears the entire post is now "alive". This means those who are apt to leave a lot of comments are now eligible to receive rewards.

Ironically, the post I chose discussed @dclick which is an advertising model that allows users to get paid passed 7 days via ads. If you notice the second comment, the poster said that Steem should work this way too. Now it does.

Talk about synchronicity.

Each week, we see new additions to the Steem blockchain that improve the entire ecosystem. As always patience is required. There are a lot of very intelligent people working on different things that we discuss on a daily basis. The evolution of this blockchain is underway. Each new feature makes what is here a bit more attractive.

That is how growth takes place.

Steemians should be in it for the long haul.

It only shares 65% with the original author, I don't think that that is a great deal tbh. Would have upvoted that old post to try it out but naaah.

wish i read this post and comment before trying to reward a 1.5 year old post, i honestly feel scammed ...this is just wrong, we're talking about 2+ lines of Steem api call and a simple URL entry (we're talking a dozen line of script code tops....and if it's as lame as Steem Forever, there is no polling no multithread needed just a post and linear request and upvote).....this should be an add on free feature for all minnowbooster account holders.

i bet if you implemented this, be first to market this for free....you will boost MB signup easily by 10% to 25% of active users in 1 month time! I know I'll surely promote this to all the communities i join in asap

Guess this workaround could have potential if a chrome extension (or a bookmarklet for those on mobile).

But it's just a very crude workaround. Noble intentions.

It would be a great service if they would not take that much. So there is opportunity to build cheaper service that users might prefer.

True it's more than the pretty much industrywide 30% standard for everything outside of crypto.

That is a great point. It opens the door for someone else to step in and not take so much. Another application could do a similar thing and keep it at a lower rate.

That is a huge detriment. I guess they feel that something is better than nothing.

they feel wrong, very wrong

Is this 25% for curation, 10% for @steem-bounty and 65% for author?

No, it is 25% for curation and from the rest 65% to the author and 35% to steem bounty

Thank you so much for explaining all this.

That is fine of course. Sorry about not being upfront about how much we share.

It's a good start IMO. At the same time, I would prefer if this feature could be used on all sites; not just steem-bounty. I think I would prefer to use busy.org

I dont know how to built this.

This is the simplest way i could come up with something.

Good to see things are evolving! Great news on a chilling Saturday, thank you! :)

I thought the blockchain has no mechanic for this, i.e. the payment window is set to 7 days.

What does Steem Bounty do? Do they claim the upvote in the background and then redistribute? Because if it relies on Steem, this can only be a workaround hack since the blockchain has the 7 days window. Anything else is pretty much just a hack.

Read the linked post. They create a comment under the post and upvote the comment instead of the post. (Which cannot be upvoted).

I think that these advances continue to demonstrate the flexibility of the blockchain and the fact that the developer community makes it possible show the influence the community has for its needs and wants. I think that it will continue to evolve to improve the rewards forward.

Excellent info!! I went to the site, read how it works! And now I am testing given to you an upvote in your dead post, and I noticed that I was your first vote after dead... It is an excellent opportunity for all the steemians

We posted a few articles using this and never made a dime. Part of the problem is google doesnt recognize Steem well to begin with, much less anyone or anything in it.
