California Pandemic Surfing

in #california3 years ago

We started to get really good swells while the beaches were closed during the pandemic. From what I saw on the internet lots of waves went unridden for a couple weeks. I know that I started to get antsy and needed to surf, I was not alone. I brought my camera with me on a couple sessions. This session was from mid-May when the beaches were set to "reopen" in June.

At first I was a little nervous to stand on the beach while I was shooting. I had seen cops walking around on the beach kicking people off who were hanging around on the beach. That was pretty interesting to see. I try to avoid any negative confrontation so I didn't want to get kicked off from sitting on the beach. The photos above were all shot from the sidewalk with my sigma 100-600mm lens.

I eventually saw the the cops were only telling people to leave if they were sitting on the beach. People who were walking or jogging on the beach were left alone. So I started walking around with my mono-pod on the beach.

Very fun session. I remember catching some really fun waves and I got some pretty sick photos.
