New Research Suggests Cannabis Can Help Children Suffering From Seizures And Chemotherapy Nausea

in #cannabis7 years ago

When it comes to trying to establish and maintain overall good health, the endogenous cannabinoid system has been regarded by scientists as being one of the most important physiological systems to take note of. These receptors are found throughout our body and they play a very important role in the central nervous system.

Endocannabinoids are said to help influence and modulate things like appetite, pain, inflammation, metabolism, mood, and more. .

Millions of people have been using cannabis to help them seek remedy from a variety of illnesses. You've got vets taking it for their PTSD, others who've turned to it for help with their chemo, sleep issues, anxiety, or pain etc.

In states that have moved to accept legalization of cannabis, researchers have also noted that there has been a decrease in overdoses due to opioid prescriptions. And it's been suggested that cannabis could be a sort of gateway drug for many, in the sense that it helps to direct individuals toward getting off their prescriptions and onto a natural substance that doesn't pose the same risky side-effects that many prescriptions do.

A great deal of children all around the US have been turning to cannabis and CBD oil specifically, to help them seek some relief from their seizures. And a growing number of doctors are starting to prescribe cannabis to their patients. Along with the trend for legalization we have also been able to conduct further research on the plant and it has helped us to uncover a variety of potential benefits that could be reaped.

One recent study that was published in the journal Pediatrics, suggests that cannabinoids might help benefit children with epilepsy and those who are undergoing chemotherapy.

Researchers analyzed over 100 different texts on the topic; browsing over an incredible amount of data on the subject. And that data included randomized trials, case reports, and more. They discovered that there was a strong benefit seen for symptoms like nausea and vomiting as a result of chemotherapy in children, as well as providing a benefit for epilepsy.

They still say that more research is needed in order to determine how effective cannabis might be at treating other issues like Tourette syndrome and more.

For right now, researchers involved with the recent study say that they've seen cannabis help to reduce seizure frequency by roughly 22 percent when compared to a placebo.

This isn't the first time that it has been suggested that cannabis might be able to help children with epilepsy; some who suffer from dozens of seizures or more every week. Thanks to the spread of information on this topic, a growing number of families have turned to try cannabis as a treatment for themselves and their loved ones.

Despite researchers admitting that there is still a lack of evidence in this area, which impedes the ability of parents and health providers to make the best decision possible, millions remain adamant that cannabis is what works for best them.

thanks for stopping by @sacred-agent ! much appreciated 👏

Im actually trying to find a good website to purchase cbd oil for my mom who had a blood clot in her brain and needs neurological pain relief. Any ideas?

hi @doitvoluntarily,,, I would like to share marijuana issue information in my country of Aceh. the quality of marijuana in Aceh is very good and very good. and certainly very beneficial for health. which made us overwhelmed, is the law created by colonial Indonesia who always harming us. whereas a lot of land in Aceh with soil quality is very fertile to grow marijuana. I really like your post about marijuana. hopefully in the future, in Aceh will be able to grow cannabis freely which is very useful for human. i like you. i always follow you. by @boyasyie

Cannabis is a drug of many chronic illnesses that are hard to cure medically, in our area, marijuana has been used as a complementary herb in various recipes, so our previous generations had a longer healthy life expectancy than the present generation, unfortunately due to the circulation and use that out of control, our state government forbids its people from planting, selling or using marijuana.

Really great post, thank you for sharing! The health benefits that not only THC but also CBD can provide are so robust for so many different conditions that it is absurd that there is still resistance to this movement.

Have you heard about the fight that is going on out in California with the growers who lost so much during the fires? They tried to start crowdfunding to help them get back but were shut down. That is literally preventing the production of life saving medicine! It is unbelievable!

Am really glad to see that people are learning all the benefits of this most incredible plant @doitvoluntarily . I started researching cannabis years ago and have a blog now where I've pulled a great deal of info and share it alot for those suffering with a plethora of different illnesses.

At some point the plant will gain back the respect it deserves as it has been used for 1,000's of years but do to those sitting in the "perceived" seats of power have financial interests in removing it from public access.

Times are changing and it is the people's time now to begin using logic, common sense and their own due diligence to discover a beautiful plant that can and will literally turn this over intrusive medical industry around. We do not need their chemicals, we need to get back to reality.

Great post and resteeming for any new visitors that may be dropping by my blog here on Steemit.

Let peace be the journey!
@vickiebarker

Information like this needs to go public to get the word out. Sure wish it had been available when I was a kid. I had seizures from 18 months to age 19 Grand Mal. In fact the first one at 18 month put me in a coma for 24 hours and they did not think I would live. Made it through though. Yes it is about MONEY!!. That is why they are so slow on legalizing it. They want to control the market and reap a big profit. If they cannot what incentive do they have to legalize it??? NONE!. Yes the world needs the Jesus juice. It helps in so many areas. Bring it on and let's get it to the folks who will benefit from it. Great read my friend.

Cannabis has helped us with seizures, fact. I think you will appreciate my Introduction

Remember the THC! Yes, Even for the Children

because CBD is significantly more effective when combined with THC. THC-A is also very useful for seizure patients.

Good Post!

Cannabis is only legal in my state through Rx, and you have to register with the state department of health. It's costly. $200 per year to register with the state and the oil runs roughly $300 for one months supply. You can get a discount if you are low income on government insurance I guess, but was not the case for me. I was disappointed with the oil as it caused a lot of dizziness but it did help relax and sleep. I was later prescribed the pill form which did the same without the dizziness. New insurance wouldn't cover so out of luck. It does help. I wish more places would legalize. Here it is oil and pill only. Good article you wrote.

yes. I agree with this postion on your post. in Indonesia itself there is a legal case of a husband must lose his wife who was convicted certain diseases. whereas the use of marijuana is done only limited treatment by way of extract. not for the use of fun. I strongly agree to legalize marijuana for medical purposes only. hopefully for the future there are international laws that can cover the use of medical marijuana in various countries. Hopefully!

it is a person's natural right to consume cannabis if they want to and trying to use violence via the state to prevent an individual from being able to peacefully exercise that right, IMO, is a crime.

How weird it's not legal....

How does this compare to adult who took the same type of cannabis?

Upvoted.

I have a relative who has epilepsy but treats it with cannabis. He rarely has seizures since he started using cannabis. For him it's a miracle drug.

The amount of evidence of cannabis helping out such mental problems is legion.

Only in The US, the land of "the free", do we have to pussy-foot around saying "research suggests that this plant may help you."

Great article. And it's good to see that the general attitude to this very beneficent plant is changing. To think that only about 25 years ago, marijuana was still mistakenly seen as an evil and dangerous drug is almost incomprehensible.

Apart from the medicinal benefits you outline in your post, it's also one of the safest in terms of recreational use. Drunk drivers kill, stoned drivers drive very slowly and safely. Drunks get in fights. Stoned people sit still, and, for the most part, don't even argue.

Another important and relevant point ... Alcoholics, as well as cocaine, speed and heroin addicts, always need more and more. On the other hand, users of marijuana experience what is called "reverse tolerance," which simply means that they need less to get high -- or to achieve the desired effect. So it's not only safe, but increased use makes it a bit safer.

Hardly the dangerous drug society was told it was just a few years ago

@doitvoluntarily Cannabis has been discovered as a good psychotropic drug, what makes it look bad is the nature of intake or how people use it. God who created this plant is more intelligent than us and he made them for a purpose. always @theheralds

When pharmaceutical industry is not financially involved you can be certain that there will be a "lack of evidence". After all, "evidence" costs a lot of money to produce. Ask someone whom it works for or doesn't. If I waited for some "authority" to say it's okay for me to use- whatever- to treat myself, then I would be in a sad condition today, minus an organ or two, thanks to prescribed "treatment" from medical doctors who told me it was the only "known" solution for my former case of I.T.P. which I won't get into in order to abbreviate. Instead of a spleenectomy which may not have been effective and probable continued use of prednisone (harmful steroid & immune suppressor), I insisted on "my way" first which was as simple as a bottle of fresh flax seed oil. Granted, I research comparing many sources and I won't get talked out of something because conservative views downplay potential. Full remission never to return. One of MANY examples. I've used cannabis for nausea and it usually works. It is difficult to find and often very expensive to get high CDB, low or no THC strains and I usually regret getting what is easily available because I can't stand being "stoned" any more. The right strain such as one branded "reefer" did ease depression without anxiety but continued use brought on the familiar head "haze". Pot should be available but I don't like it. For special cases- the right strain and pure oils are typically the way to go, such as in children. Do it right. Usually worsens my depression and social anxiety. I gave up on available "solutions" for depression until I discovered kratom. First try I felt it but didn't seem like it would help. I didn't give it the chance it (I) deserved. When my back injury flared back up causing excruciating pain that locked me to my bed- (codien just knocked me out so how productive is that?) I remembered I had kratom in the cupboard. Unbelievable- so effective at reducing inflammation that the nerve that was compressed was relieved. With a cup of coffee after (makes a difference- no bs) I realized that I found the solution to occasional crippling nerve compression (which otherwise takes weeks to subside), depression and a lifetime of alternating social problems. Within 45 minutes of drinking this powder in water prior to coffee, I was out the door and walking uphill to buy groceries. This is the 1st autumn I have been "ok" and actually enjoy at times in the past 8 years or so. Naturally, the FDA is rushing to put this gentle yet effective tree leaf on schedule 1 narcotics. The DEA claims "no known medical use". Millions know that it works but people are the target of a war on drugs. People don't like that heroin addicts that are motivated to break free can use this to come off without dreadful withdrawal symptoms. "It must me dangerous" People take 3+ X the normal dose (stupid) and the worst result is they build a rapid tolerance. Nobody stops breathing. You won't find anyone nodding out in the street on kratom. Nobody is wasted stoned. There's a ton of propaganda via google pushing to ban this and millions crying foul. It's illegal in some US states because of fear and ignorance. The ban is on hold pending further review. The American Kratom Association if fighting the legal battle to keep kratom accessable and to be researched. Questions about kratom use, I'll be happy to answer based on first hand experience. Keep botanicals legal and be informed before taking action (common sense). Some will try to abuse anything. Don't let that take away our ability to solve problems and major hardships.

A very informative post... I think, most of us were not aware of it's importance.. Now a days people are so much stressed that these remedies helps us a lot.. thanks for sharing..I am resteeming it.
