2017, December 20th. Around twelve noon, I'm sitting at the headquarters of Deloitte in Nigeria having a partner's interview with the head of tax department and it's my last round of interview for the role of a tax associate.

I always dream of working at Deloitte but not in if tax department. Now looking at me about to get a job at Deloitte just a month after graduation was like a dream come true looking at the fact that jobs are very scarce in Nigeria. So I was ready to accept the role in tax department even though I don't like it.

Everything went well with my interview, then he asked me one question. He said if you take this job, you will likely have to build your career all through your life in the tax industry, if you look back 30 years from now when you are about to retire, will you be happy that you took a career as a tax associate? I said I'm not sure.

So he told me to think about it before taking the job. That in any career I am going to take a job in, I should ask myself the same question, will I be happy 30 years from now for spending my life in this industry and if the answer isn't yes, then don't take it. You see even in this rat race, if you want enjoy the work, you will regret the journey.

Its just so much a career advice but also a life advice.
Gary Vaynerchuk says something along the lines of "Eat shit and love the grind".
