Sitting here thinking should I write something or just post the pictures? As I think about it more, I could just post the pictures and leave it at that, but maybe a little bit of a story would suitable for this car.
My friend bought this car, for some reason he likes to pay off loans, but it keeps him happy so I guess its worth it for him. The car was purchased with warranty and man did he use it, the gearbox linkages were not working properly when he got it so it spent some time in the Porsche workshop and we did go for a visit to pick up the car, I have photos of some nice old Porsche's that I will upload in another post.
I drove this car a couple of times, I always liked the boxster, my friend on the other hand was always a 911 fan and looked down upon them, but that attitude changed as he found he was able to afford this one.
These cars have the engine mounted in the middle of the car as opposed to the 911 where they hang the engine out the back. Very nice to drive everything is very good for an old car. Handling is great and this thing has massive tires on it so it could go fast through corners and was very planted, I've driven an MX5 for over 20 years so I am familiar with small fast rear wheel drive cars.
It has a very solid little chassis for a convertible, a few rattles here and there but for an old car it was acceptable.
After driving it I can see why everyone raves about the handling of the Cayman, the extra rigidity of the roof would make for a super stiff chassis that would be very nice to drive, perhaps one day I'll get to test one of those.
The big weird lights on it look a little dated now, but once you have one parked in the drive way you don't really notice it and it's a nice thing to look at, although I wouldn't have chosen black wheels with black paint, a little to dark for me. The interior was tan leather with very basic German styling.
Putting it into reverse triggered a super loud beep that was over the top and one drawback of the car, I don't know if that is a standard Porsche thing or just on this model but it was a bit to much, fortunately you wont be going backwards very often as this car is built to be driven and is a lot of fun.
When I got into the thing I was being very careful as I did not want to crash it, my friend told me he didn't mind as it was insured .
So well the next time I drove it I was going around a corner taking it easy and a woman in a family car went to overtake me, so I gave it a bit and was touching the speed limit before she could do much more than wave goodbye. So its fun to drive and it goes very quick, I didn't have much time in the car but it was fun while it lasted.
These images were taken by me I hold all copyright.
Was that one of Don's cars?
Yeah
Nice car and that's good of your friend to let you have a drive.
