Antique Chess Pieces

in #chess5 years ago

Today I found these wonderful antique chess pieces in a small shop in Walenstadt, a small and beautiful Swiss town with a lake.

This find is a great motivation for playing my next game. I like chess for its aesthetics (not just the pieces but also the positions and lines). And it also makes my friends happy because it is quite manageable to score a victory playing me.

I love Chess, in these days that here in my country we had no light for 6 days, and that was what entertained us jejeje. And this board and those pieces are beautiful. regards

Chess!!! I love the act of playing chess, but am not particularly funned of actually playing it. Chess is a good game though. It is for intelligent minds, so you must be an intelligent person @mariusfebruary. Chess!!!!

I also like to play chess. Sharing one picture of chessboard which is played in standing position. This picture was captured from one of my favorite places.

It's been a while since I played chess. I managed to qualify for the UK national championship first round from my school when I was 11 years old. I fancied my chances after wiping the floor with the schmucks in my school.

How quickly that changed when I was at the Nationals... I got destroyed in the 8 games played haha! Some seriously talented people there, using the text book manoeuvres, probably had me beaten before I even sat down at the table... Bubble burst, never played since 🤣

That does look like a lovely chess set though. Better than cheap plastic ones I learned the game with!

National championship! Very cool. Playing someone who knows the opening tricks can be frustrating. Its sometimes worth loosing a piece just to get out of book (I do this unwillingly hahaha). Something seemingly unrelated comes to mind: I think this Elon Musk's goal when he tweets taking Tesla private ('funding secured') knowing that funding is not secured. He takes the speculators out of book, killing the short positions and the speculative long positions. Then he pays a fine ($20 M personal + $20 M for Tesla) but, perhaps, getting rid of some of the speculators is worth it.

That's a good tactic. If I get round to blowing the dust off my Chess board wisdom, it will be worth giving that a go but that was 20 years ago now. As long as games aren't over in 10 moves I'll count that as a victory haha!

Seems Elon Musk is playing a different game of chess altogether there! Very smart man, if you can afford the hit of 20M, life's good right?! Guess what he's doing is the equivalent of "staking" where the long term investment will pay off for all parties rather than those who were on the fence.

Chess is one of my favorite board games. I've learned how to play it with one of my grandfathers and since then, I haven't stopped.

Besides being a fun game is extremely efficient as a brain exercise, haha! The chess I have today is this one:

Wonderful figures, that reminded me a chess play from "Harry Porter" when Ron played with such magical huge figures. My nephew is a fan of chess since his mother as well as my 2 cousins playing chess on professional level. I really enjoy watching, but it is not for me. I prefer creating Art and spend hours on my watercolor, acrylic and pastel work.

I hope you really enjoy your game, Marius and have a nice day, @Stef1

Oh wow that's awesome. They look so unique. I have not played in awhile but sounds fun especially playing with these peices.
Be well...

Oh, very lovely! My eldest child and I were teaching ourselves to play chess over the summer, and my parents gifted us a very nice glass set.

I'd love to visit Switzerland some day!
I'm no good at chess but love anything antique and beautifully crafted.
Great find my friend.
Thanks

I like this game thank you shere i'm first visit your blog your all post is super...♥

More manageable than playing the AI on my mac. I started voraciously consuming videos on openings and the appropriate counters on youtube and still get completely smashed by the computer on even the most amateurish settings.

Engines are hard to play. Do you know the app called Magnus Trainer. Very nicely designed and instructive.

This is pretty much exactly what I’m lookin for. Awhile ago, during my chess match breakdown video binge, I picked up a chess trainer that was basically a series of chess puzzles...which while a fun distraction sorta began way above my level despite my general affinity for strategy games. Thanks my dude! And thanks for being such a strong supporter of the dsound community during its time of need...that’s actually how I discovered your page!

Interface on magnus trainer is slickkkkk. Was wondering if the magnus part was just being cheeky but no, he is all over this hahaha.

Chess is a very intelligent game, it is very fun games 👾 Old things are the most attractive..😱😱

My previous ID has been lost. 😥😢So I have to open a new ID☺please support me🙋

Chess is a mind refresh game I think. Because when we play this game then our mind feel how to win now from here. And chess is a mind exercise game

I must say, that is the nicest chess pieces I have ever seen which makes me curios about how much is it?(if you don't mind me asking)

Regardless of the cost, the important is that it motivates you to play. IMO it's the best board game that one should play as it encourages our brain to improve its creative & problem solving thinking.

When it comes to the play, I prefer being the underdog - it's more challenging & quite fun especially if I get to win against a good opponent.

😊Enjoy the game Marius!
