Sometimes, life throws heavy blows of unfairness at us, and this hits us hard, not just in the physical realm, but much more in the mental, because it gets us asking many questions which, more often than not, have no convincing or justifiable answers for the blows life gave us.
The mental torture seems even more than the physical infliction of the pain gotten from the unfairness because such person wants to know why he or she is going through some things he or she is going through.
Since man feels in charge best by logic, he tries to proffer a logical answer to the question of unfairness of life .. like .... “Could it be my past sins that is making me to go through the unpleasant situation I’m going through?”.
But then, the person would see someone else who not just had been a sinner, but still sinning with no serious caution, yet not going through the unpleasant situation he or she is going though.
“Could it be that I’m not smart or intelligent enough?”
But then, the person, with all honesty and modesty, would see someone not as smart or intelligent as he or she is, not experiencing the unpleasant situation the person may be experiencing, and this could bring the secret or silent thoughts of unfairness of life to the person.
David felt like that once upon a time…
Psalm 13:1-4
“How long wilt thou forget me, O Lord? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? 2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me? 3 Consider and hear me, O Lord my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death; 4 Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved.”
From the tone of this passage, you could feel the pain and frustration in heart. Honestly, this can be very painful.
Was that not how Joseph must have felt when he got thrown into the prison for an offense he didn’t commit. Though he appeared cool, calm and collected all the while, ... but that was on the external. Though he managed the negative situations that happened to him well, yet, he fell what we was going through was unfair. That was revealed in his statement to the butler... saying he did nothing to warrant the ugly situation he was in ...
Genesis 40:15
“For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.”
Hmm … did you sense the pain in that statement of Joseph? … “… and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.”. Wow!
Have you ever felt like that before? Have you ever felt life is hitting you in a particular area of your life with the blows of unfairness?
Joseph was in the prison with the gifts best appreciated in the palace! Wow!
That is so frustrating!
Have you ever felt confined by life in a situation you cannot logically explain?
How could people be getting set free through the gift of Joseph, and Joseph remained in prison?
How could Joseph be using his gift to touch, counsel, direct, instruct others unto their freedom and victory, but he remained in the same situation he helped others out of?
JESUS also experienced something like that when HE was on the Cross …
Luke 23:35
“And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.”
Have you ever felt like that before? … That you are being used to help others, but somehow, you need help yourself?
This makes others to wonder that if you are so specially gifted, how come you are still in the prison, Joseph?
I tell you, the mental torture of that thought in the heart of Joseph would carry more pain than he even being in the prison.
This happened to a man termed “great” in scriptural commentary. His name was Naaman …
2 Kings 5:1
“Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the Lord had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.”
Naaman was a deliverer that needed deliverance himself.
The same thing happened to Apostle Paul. He was used to deliver others from what they were going through, but somewhere inside, he cried in frustration for deliverance….
Acts 19:11-12
“And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: 12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.”
But he revealed to us that he too needed deliverance in some areas of his life ...
Romans 7:24
“O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?”
Infact, it was revealed to us that he besought the LORD for deliverance in prayers, and instead of the situation being resolved, GOD released HIS GRACE to him to bear it! Wow! That could be frustrating you know …
2 Corinthians 12:8-9
“For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
I can go on and on about different examples of the seemingly unfairness of life, but let me stop here.
I believe you’ve gotten the message that life hits us sometimes with situations our reasoning cannot just successfully resolve logically, and that causes us to suffer much more internally than the suffering that seem obvious to the world.
This could be painful because our physical situations may lie to people about who we really are.
Bad situations happening to is may tend to give onlookers a wrong impression about us. Making them to think we are who we really may not be.
That was the experience of Apostle Paul one upon a time when he was bitten by a snake. The onlookers immediately concluded that he must have been a bad person for such bad thing to have happened to him ...
Acts 28:4
“And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.”
GOOD NEWS!
Later, they changed their minds when Paul defiled the adverse effect of the bad situation miraculously or supernaturally.
They thought the situation would kill him, but he kept on living with no clear evidence of the bad situation written on him! ...
Acts 28:6
“Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.”
Back to the story of Joseph, and fast forwarded to a few years after, the situation had changed!
He had become the Prime Minister in Egypt through some divine orchestration, and all his offenders were beneath him.
Infact, life brought his original offenders to seek for his help then, and they were scared that he would pay them back in their own coin, but he didn’t. He had gain so much spiritual understanding about the unfairness of life being an instrument in the hand of GOD to eventually fulfill one’s glorious destiny. So, he said …
Genesis 45:5
“Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.”
What was he saying in another word? ... That what they meant for evil, GOD turned around for good!
Are you experiencing similar situation of unfairness of life’s blow? Don’t worry. HE’s the same GOD. HE’ll turn the bad situation around for you good again .. in JESUS’ NAME.
Just be encouraged. It won’t continue like this forever. HE is that MASTER at turning bad situations to good again ...
Jeremiah 18:4
“And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
GOD will use the unpleasant situation to usher you into a more glorious season of your life.
Romans 8:28
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
You’re still blessed ... regardless!
