1 Samuel 3:13-14When you see people around you or your children
behaving wrongly, how do you feel? Do you feel a
sense of responsibility towards correcting them?God punished Eli for not restraining his children
from their bad conduct. They slept with women who
were serving at the door of the tabernacle and
profaned the sacrifices brought to God.According to 1 Samuel 2:23-24, Eli heard about it
and told them to stop, “And he said unto them, why
do ye such things, for I hear your evil dealings by all
this people. Nay, my sons; for it is not good report
that I hear, ye make the Lord's people to transgress”,
but they did not.Eli was not firm enough to ensure they stopped. He
did not follow them with supervision to stop their
evil actions. Eli did not prevent them practically
from their wrong conduct, no practical measures or
plan of action to stop them was taken. God judged Eli severely, he lost his office as a priest, and generations after him were deprived of the priestly office.2 Timothy 3:16-17 admonishes us to “use God's
word for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training
in righteousness so that men can be equipped to do
that which is good.”Do not think God will spare you if you fail to teach,
rebuke correct and train the people God has given
you the opportunity to reach. Therefore, restrain
bad conduct.Prayers:
I receive the grace to teach, rebuke, correct and give direction to people God has put in my care, for their
perfection in Jesus' Name.
