Corruption in Romania kills Part 2

As I said in the previous post about corruption in Romania, the fortress of Brasov is slowly falling apart because of the absurd situation that it is owned by a private company.

The fortress is located on top of a hill in the center of Brasov and can be easily accessed by foot or car. Once you get there up there you'll have a beautiful panorama of the old city but also of the new city.

After the communist rose to power in 1947 in Romania, this fortress was used to be a prison for the political prisoners who oppose the new regime. The access in the area was restricted for many years because of the strategic importance of the place for the communist local administration and after all the prisoners had died or transferred to another reeducation camp the fortress became the headquarter of the Radio Interference in the area. In the mid-eighties, the fortress was open to public access and a restaurant was opened inside of it.

After the so-called revolution in 1989 and the first glimpse of capitalism, many factories and other holdings of the state was privatized and they were bought for almost nothing by the companies which were driven from the shadow by the ex-communists now the great capitalists.
In 2010 the restaurant went bankrupt and the fortress was left to fall apart and the access inside has restricted again.

Nowadays, the local administration won the first trial against the private company for the ownership of the fortress but the private company has appealed. Only after High Court of Cassation and Justice give the fortress to the local administration the fortress can be rehabilitated. Till then is nothing to do and the process is a long-term process and we can only hope that justice will be made in this case to save this beautiful monument!
