Hello there! It's me, Mae!
I hope you all are doing well. As a human being, I’m not gonna lie that waking up at 5:00 in the morning wasn’t easy haha. I was tempted to hit snooze, but I remembered why I set that alarm in the first place. Today, we had a clean-up drive in our place, and I wanted to be there—not just for the activity that is given by SK officials but because of something that actually matters to me. It is to take part and give service for the community as sponsored student in our barangay.

By 5:50 am, a few minutes before the call time I rode a jeepney going to our meeting place, the Barangay Hall together with the other volunteer youths. I arrived and seen some that were still half-asleep, but we were all there, including the SK officials. Bringing our own cleaning tools, I brought some garbage bags and wearing comfy jogging pants.

As the sun rises, the SK officials give an instructions for us and we started our clean up drive along the main road and slowly moved into the smaller streets. I picked up candy wrappers, plastic bottles, canned bottles and other stuff that shouldn’t be lying around. It was dusty and a little tiring —but honestly, it felt good. There’s something about doing this kind of work in your own community that makes you feel proud. Some of the older people who were already up said thank you or smiled as they passed. Others just watched quietly, but that was okay. We weren’t doing it for attention. We just wanted to help in our own way.

By the time the sun was fully out and my garbage bag were already full, I could already see the difference. The streets looked cleaner, lighter—like a small reset.

Then, the Sk officials told us to head back in the barangay hall which was a walking distance from where we did clean up drive. Along the way, I've seen different kinds of flowers and as a floraphile I couldn't resist taking photos of them. I am amazed by how vibrant their colors looked —glowing so bright under the touch of morning sun.
As we gathered at the meeting place, we enjoyed bread and water prepared by the youth council. Afterwards, I bid good bye to one of the sk officials and made my way home. Feeling accomplished and grateful for the experience.
Looking back, I’m glad I got up early for this. Being part of something simple yet meaningful with my fellow youth made me feel connected—not just to them, but to our barangay. It reminded me that even small actions, like picking up trash, can make a big impact when done together. It is not just about cleaning the surroundings, but also appreciating what Mother Nature gifted us—such a lively and colorful environment. That we can preserve for the future generations.
What a nice and active morning to start the whole week!
Hoping to see you all again! Bye bye!❤️

That's really a nice activity, it's for the betterment of your place, that clean up drive. It's a great initiative, I just hope people can be more mindful na when throwing their trash outside. Aigooo
I just really hope too that even a small deed can help with the issue we are facing right now globally —which is climate change.
