Color challenge - Friday Sky Blue - Twister in a bottle

in #colorchallenge7 years ago (edited)

This colorchallenge post is dedicated to all the victims and survivors of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey. We have been watching the news in horror in the southern hemisphere. Our thoughts are with you!

This is a photograph of a science experiment... a storm in a bottle. It was achieved by joining the lids of two soda bottles, placing a hole in the centre of the joined lids, and then adding some lamp oil to water. When you tip the bottle and spin it around, it creates a vortex:

This is a great experiment to do with kids. The lamp oil was used to add a bright splash of colour, but glitter can be used instead.

This image was captured with my Nikon D7100 and 18-140mm lens.

Have a great weekend everyone!

That is cool!

Making a twister in a bottle is pretty cool. The only problem with the one I made was that the seal was a bit wonky, so the lamp oil kept leaking out and it got pretty stinky! Thanks for stopping by for a look :)

Thanks for having a look at my storm in a bottle and your comments :)

This is really neat. Thank you for trying this out and sharing this - I have been hearing about this lately but had no idea what it was all about. Now I know <3

Thanks panda... now you know what to do with your time the next time you find yourself at a loose end ;)

I used to love doing this as a kid, I haven't thought of it in years! Going to have to do it again soon.

I never did this experiment when I was a kid... well, not until I was a big kid :)

Very cool photo! I've seen that experiment done...quite fascinating for me, as well as kids!

Nice concept.
