Condorito's Girlfriend, Yayita

in #comics8 years ago (edited)

Since the recent post introducing the Comic Book character Condorito got some views and some rewards, I'm planning to post a few more where we do a sketch of some of the principle friends, rivals and acquaintances of the mythical Everyman-Condor known as Condorito. Who better to begin with then, than his fiancé of nearly 70 years, Yayita.

Yayita is portrayed as very attractive, fashionable, sharp tongued and strong minded but no liberated lady. She's more like the girl next door, but what a knockout! She's very inept at things like driving and cooking which are the basis of stereotypical running gags. She tries her hand at many odd jobs but she's still living at home with her parents, not a day older, even after all these years. While most certainly a nick-name we never, ever learn what her given name really is -- simplemente Yayita.

Some knockout, eh!
This is the best image I could get with this old comic book below -- replaced April 24th, better.
Translation follows with text and vocabulary.
Note that Una Obra a WORK in Spanish is a PLAY in the English language.

¿Que tienes algo importante que decirme? Está bien, mi amor, aquí te espero.
So you’ve got something important to tell me? Very well, my love, I’ll be expecting you here.

Rato Después… = A While Later…
¡Hola, mi amor! Pasa.
Hello dear! Come in.

¡Ay, mi amor, estoy muy contenta!
Oh, my love, I’m so happy!

¿A qué se debe esa alegría?
To what do we owe that joy?

¿Te acuerdas de ese aviso en el diario en que solicitaban actrices nuevas para una obra de teatro?
Do you remember that newspaper ad where they were asking for new actresses for a theater play?

Sí.
Yes.

¡Hoy fui a presentarme como postulante!
Today I went to try out for the position.

¿Y crees que tendrás opción en clasificar?
And you think you’ll make the cut?

El director me dijo que si yo le daba un besito, sería extra en la obra.
The director told me that if I gave him a little kiss, I’d be an extra in the play.

¡Bah! Dáselo… ¿Qué es un beso?
Pshaw! Give it to him… What’s a kiss?

¡Eso venía a decirte, mi amor! ¡Soy la estrella de la obra!
That’s what I came to tell you, my dear! I’m the star of the show!
