Not sure if many have had a chance to see @CommentWealth in action. Last month @geke and @jimitations launched @commentwealth. I really liked their initiative and felt that I would like to help out and plug the program where and when I can. I had a chance this weekend and hit the bullseye.
First a little bit more about their @commentwealth initiative. @commentwealth does not follow or upvote content and is not a bot.
Instead, CommentWealth will post comments and occasional project updates, upvote the quality comments of others, and occasionally flag comments that spam, bully, or pander. (As CommentWealth and its voting power grows, you can request its help in flagging or discouraging comment spam by contacting @geke on Discord.)

A second chance
I was on a post and interacting with the post, in the comments. This is less about the post than the comments. In the comments I saw the typical plopped in SPAM comment. Now this is not my post, but the people on the post were getting at the spammer.
I checked out his blog and comments and it seemed that it was a pattern. So, I flagged it. Later in the afternoon, and I don't know why, but I thought about why I flagged the comment as opposed to trying out a @commentwealth approach.
I went back in and unflagged the comment and then posted a reply that I grabbed from @commentwealth's scripts for spam response.
CommentWealth trolls for trolls and spams the spammers... please be aware @----- that consistent spam comments like yours might eventually result in flags, which hurt your reputation and earning potential. Linking to your own posts in another Steemian's comment thread is really bad form. Next time, try engaging with the author in a way that builds true community here on Steemit!
Holly Hell - Guess what happened!
I received a response and it was positive. I had engaged in behavior change and it felt good. Here was a relatively new Steemian stepping out and trying stuff, inadvertently crossing the line, but looking for help. Now I was in it though. I could not just post my comment like that and run. @sanmi was looking for advice and I felt obligated to help.
I wish @sanmi the best of luck running his contest.
So, we can all run around and yell SPAMMER, SPAMMER, spammer until we are blue in the face, however, unless we step up and do something about it the problem will continue. If you have any SP to delegate, @commentwealth is a great recipiant for your generosity.
And now for something completely hilarious.
Spam,spam,spam,spam,spam,spam

What a great interaction and example of community building right the comments @jasonbu! We've had that happen, too - as a result of politely explaining the offense, we've gotten several responses of remorse. But good on you for taking that even one step further! If you don't mind, we may copy and paste your second comment, and add it to our comment repertoire!
Absolutely, cut, dice and slice whatever you need.
While I'm new and my upvotes aren't worth dust, I have found that it does seem to be community building to first try to engage and see if one gets a human reply.
I do love @commentwealth and especially the noob guide to commenting and upvoting. This is also helpful even for the more spamish replies that can be made to help your ranking. ;)
Keep to those principles and you will do fine. I've actually found that commenting and engaging has been very successfully for me, personally. @commentwealth is doing stuff that most just sit idly by and don't do anything. They are though. Keep going!
Thanks for the encouragement. I'll keep posting and trying to add value when I can. Thanks for this article. It confirms how I've felt @commentwealth is a good neighbor in coaching us little ones and helping when and where they can add well.
Thanks for this post @jasonbu. I wasn't aware of the @commentwealth initiative and really am impressed by what they are doing. I'm going to try and do a bit more of this type of response to spammers in an effort to improve the Steemit arena.
Awesome, thanks @bigpanda! I was hoping that it would spur on some interest in @commentwealth :-)
Oh, and your fight club is a great twist on the "contest" ... Really want to get into the next one :-)
Awesome @jasonbu! What great advice too!
Thanks @sarahsayjay. Appreciate the comment. I've participated and even run a contest. It's much harder than you would think.
Exactly my thoughts when I read your post. I just attempted my first contest last week...it didn't really get any response. I felt the advice you gave was really good advice and I wish I had seen it before running mine :)
