Hello, I'm Marie, and I’ve been a nurse for about 13 years. I mostly take care of patients that have disabilities such as autism. Being a nurse taught me how to not take things for granted and to appreciate what I have. It also allowed me to spread joy and comfort to the families of my patients. One of my nursing teachers always told me, “When you’re helping someone, doesn’t matter if they’re White, Black, Asian, Hispanic, educated or not, rich, poor, an adult or a kid. Treat them with dignity. It could be your mother, father, son, daughter, sister, brother or even you in their place.”
Although I love my profession, I also love being the mother of my children who unknowingly teach me valuable lessons everyday. It wasn’t easy for me to get to where I am now. It was an ugly rollercoaster that I am glad to say I’ve endured with the help of God and my family by my side. So I’m just here to motivate you all out there and say, “Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you thought you once couldn’t.” - Rikki Rogers
