Etherparty Analysis Part 2: Road Map

For the analysis of Etherparty, I will be posting several smaller parts where I focus on one thing, such as: project, team, funding, road map, et cetera. By doing this, I can get the information to you faster so that we can have discussion sooner. In addition, I think the posts will be easier to read. After releasing all the parts, I will also post the entire analysis and a summary.

In the previous part I went over the basics: the project, token and where to buy it. In this part I will look into the road map.

Where is the project currently?

In their community updates on Medium, Etherparty gives some updates regarding partnerships and various events they've hosted or participated in. However, there's not many updates regarding the progress of the project and they rarely refer to the road map as shown in the white paper. This makes it hard to judge whether the team is on schedule.

In the white paper, Etherparty divides future development over three releases, named Release 1, 2 and 3. Release 1 was scheduled for Q4 of 2017 and included development on:

  • Backend Systems
  • Frontend Systems
  • Authentication & Authorization
  • Network Organization
  • Cloud

Beta testing is started in 2017 and is currently on-going. Users can register for the beta version on the Etherparty website. In the December Community Update it's mentioned that mainnet release is planned for Q1 of 2018.

Since the white paper was not clear on whether Release 1 would be on test net or main net, we can not conclude whether the team is on schedule. Either the team is right on schedule or behind on schedule by about three months.

What's in store?

Release 2 (planned for end of Q2 2018):

  • Mobile App
  • Notifications
  • Contract Templates & Library (crucial for contract marketplace)
  • Oracle System (integration of APIs)

Release 3 (planned for end of Q4 2018):

  • Additional development on Frontend Systems
  • Additional development on Mobile App
  • Enterprise Solution (advanced features)
  • Team & Team Features

Some important goals that Etherparty has mentioned elsewhere in the white paper, such as becoming blockchain agnostic, are nowhere to be found in the road map. Similarly, there is no mention of releasing on test and main net. It would be good for would-be Etherparty investors if Etherparty released a more detailed road map and referred more to the road map in their community updates.

What do you think of the road map? How do you feel about the level of detail?
Do you think the team can make the deadlines and release on main net by Q1?

So far from my reading it seems as though this might not be a great investment right now. I think it will be good if they and work out the wrinkles.

Agree. They need to communicate more clearly to their investors. Crypto is risky enough as it is. Any ambiguity regarding crucial elements such as road map adds even more (unnecessary) risk.

However, there's still a chance for Etherparty to redeem itself. We still need to go over things such as the team, funding, economics and competitors. Maybe that'll tip the scaled in their advantage.

Good point. If this wasn’t in their immediate purview then came up as a viable option it may have just slipped through; and maybe they’ll have an updated white paper for the new logic (for lack of a better term).

hola! I like your post! Thanks for it! I went to jail because of cryptos... lets make steemit together to a better place with our content! I would like to read a bit more about you and maybe do you have some more pictures? I also just wrote a introduce yourself. Maybe you upvote me and follow me swell as I do? https://busy.org/introduceyourself/@mykarma/1-jail-review-bitcoins-3-years-ago

Thanks for the post! I am pretty new to the crypto scene. Heard about bitcoin 7 years ago and didn’t seriously look into it until this December... oh well.

I went on github to see what the level of activity was for etherparty. I feel like I’m looking in the wrong place. The most recent activity was 2 months ago.

They must be working on something.

Any thoughts?

Hey brotherchikory, that's a good remark!
This is what I could find in their Developer’s Update December 14, 2017:

Q: “Your last github update was 15 days ago. Why?”

A: Our development work on Etherparty is in private repositories. We hope to open source more useful tools, as we’ve done with our popular Ethereum block explorer, in the future.

In other words, not everything they do shows up in their github.

Cool, thanks!
